In my opinions, HK can provide very productive PhD graduates and so some can get offers in USA. However, do not forget that the job of assistant professors is not only closing door to do research. They need to teach and do administrative work (communicate with different kinds of people). It is difficult persuading American universities that when HK PhD graduates do not have American experience, they can perform well in teaching and service. From the perspective of undergraduate and master students, they doubt the quality of their teachers if the teachers get a degree from Asia but not USA. So American universities, of course, tend to employ American graduates. -- by 会员 sm1 (2010/7/31 2:02:38)
