第一直觉选D。看了大家的讨论后，似乎觉得选E。后来咨询了一位大牛，给出了这样的解释：本题缺少一个逻辑链，即inert=nontoxic。为了方便理解，还给出了个例子：学校长期受黑帮问题影响（concentrations of metal），现在学校引进了方法A（H）来消灭黑帮，但消灭黑帮后学生一定能学习好么？可能学校还有毒品问题。也就是说，inert metal不一定代表nontoxic，可能inert metal还有别的问题，D选项恰好弥补了这个问题，金属失活后，植物能很好成长。因此答案是D。

这题必须选C !!! ,现象：这种植物在有毒的soil里生长。 解释：这种植物可以产生H来降低金属毒性，因此可以生长。   如果要加强这个解释，有一种办法是“有因有果” ，就是再举一个相同的案例，因为前提说过和这种植物很相似的其他植物都可以在有毒的soil 里生长，那么添加一个原因（其他植物里都有大量的H）就可以加强原来的解释啦！~ 而D中存在很多的干扰因素（我觉得如果没有over an extended period比较好），如果觉得分析的不对，就及时指出！

后面的thrive in soil with high concentrations 修饰的是 a group of closely related plant
文章说 a group 里的一种 herb 因为 histidine可以生长 ，得出（group 中的其他植物也是）因为H这种物质而得以生长，有gap!!
所以选C   group 中的其他植物都有H这种物质  这样就可以推出是因为H物质。

选C哈，第一句话里的A certain cultivated herb is one of a group of closely related plants不是白给的，逻辑题里面的信息几乎都是有用的，就像那个打印机和打印纸的那个逻辑题。

一种cultivated herb属于一大群能存活在high concentrations of metals的植物之一，虽然metals是有毒的，但herb能分泌histidine来阻止毒素，所以herb是因为histidine才存活，问support

C答案是：其它能存活在metals的植物也分泌histidine，由此加强了结论

D答案是：herb在metals中活久了之后，也能让别的植物存活在metals中，根本没提到histidine，明显的无关项
