[求助]12月语法机经的两题，三天后考请帮忙

我也没见过 as same the number as 的用法，而且，as...as 就有 same 的意识，所以放在一起有点重复，但 equal to 也有问题因为 equal to 是相等，等同的意识，这样句子变成：
5 million（people) do sth, equal to the number of usa in 1995
people 等于 number 好像也不行。
我想会不会是 the same number as (in or sth) usa in 1995. 大家在讨论讨论。考试中遇见肯定死翘翘了。

第3题答案怪怪的，ETS不大会用equal to做正确答案的。可以参考OG132的解说，说是通常只修饰不可数名词。
但前2个也不象正确答案啊，是不是题干最后漏了什么啊？

equal to在这里作甚么成分呢？是补语么？如果在这里用的是EQUAL也就是说equal在这里是形容辞了？？
