-but that is actually not the case. Small companies can actually get more out of their R&D investment than big companies can.

-why can small companies get more out of their R&D investment than big companies can?
-once a new technology/ knoweldge is developed, it is very different to ring-fence. So over time other people will know this knowledge.
-small companies get as much knowledge from this "R&D" spillover as big companies do. Yet small companies pay less for R&D than big companies.
-so small companies get more bang for their buck

逻辑
1. somebody did a research on the relationship between people being kind to their spouses and their happiniess level. the researcher concluded that people being kind to their spouses will lead to higher happiness level. How to strengthen the argument?
答案是researcher found out that just because people are happier,  it doesn't mean they will be nicer their spouses.
