A study of ticket sales at a summer theater festival found that people who bought
tickets to individual plays had a no-show rate of less than 1 percent, while those
who paid in advance for all ten plays being performed that summer had a no-show
rate of nearly 30 percent. This may be at least in part because the greater the
awareness customers retain about the cost of an item, the more likely they are to
use it.
Which of the following would, if true, best serve as an alternative explanation of
the results of the study?
(A) The price per ticket was slightly cheaper for those who bought all ten
tickets in advance.
(B) Many people who attended the theater festival believed strongly that
they should support it financially.
(C) Those who attended all ten plays became eligible for a partial refund.
(D) Usually, people who bought tickets to individual plays did so
immediately prior to each performance that they attended.
(E) People who arrived just before the performance began could not be
assured of obtaining seats in a preferred location.

Those who attended all ten plays became eligible for a partial refund. 10场都参加可以部分返还,那么每场都参加,总的来说这票价就便宜了,但是因为customers retain(保留) about the cost of an item...

C: greater the awareness customers retain about the cost of an item, the more likely they are to use it.

(A)The price per ticket was slightly cheaper for those who bought all ten

“This may be at least in part because the greater the awareness customers retain about the cost of an item, the more likely they are to use it.

If you buy an individual ticket, it is very straightforward how much you paid for it.  It is less so if you buy all the tickets together , because you have to do a division, at least, to get the price of each individual ticket. 10 tickets are not good in this context, because it makes the division so easy.

An alternative explanation is provided by   ( D) Usually, people who bought tickets to individual plays did so
immediately prior to each performance that they attended.

It is not because of the awareness of the cost, but because of your own availability or forgetfulness.
You buy a ticket right before the play starts, you know you are available, and you are less likely to forget.

If you buy the tickets for the whole season way in advance, you may not be available when a play takes place or you simply forget to show up.

是这句吗?“This may be at least in part because the greater the awareness customers retain about the cost of an item, the more likely they are to use it.”
