Thanks Jon!

Sorry for misspelling your name.

I really want to thank you for offering valuable advices.. If it's not for your reply, I would almost certainly still walk on the previous path without the least conscience of taking on such huge risks.  As you suggested, now I am trying to get a job first before working on my application.

Hypothetically, if I could get a satisfactory job matching with my career goal. I would like to know my chance of getting in S16 or even on M7.

I know it's premature for there is a lot IFs for the time being. I still bring up the question since I really want to have a clear picture of where my efforts will take me to eventually before setting off.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi John,

I am grateful to your reply. Your advice is of great value to me.

Hey there!
Well the problem is not the fact that you aren't working for a few months. That’s totally fine. Everyone has SOME sort of gap in the work. The big problem will be if yo are STILL unemployed by the time you apply - that will mean you haven’t worked for almost a year, and then you have ANOTHER whole year before you matriculate, which will mean TWO years with no job. And there’s no explanation that will help out there.

Maybe I wasn’t entirely clear in my last message, but by “unquit” I didn’t mean you have to go back to the job you left. You left, and probably for very good reasons. But you should concentrate your energies on finding a job that goes in the direction of what you really want to do. And try very very hard to be employed by the time you apply in R1.

In the meanwhile, yes filling the time with courses and volunteer work is an EXCELLENT idea. But like I said, it will be VERY advantageous to you to have a job by the time you apply. so start thinking about that now.

Best,
Jon Frank

Hi John,

I am grateful to your reply. Your advice is of great value to me.

The thing is that I already quitted and unfortunately I can’t undo the decision. Nevertheless, the reason why I quitted has much more to do with my personal life than simply applying for MBA. Now, as things stand, I am somehow mired in a dilemma where it sounds unrealistic to find a decent job shortly and I certainly don’t want to grab a clumsy job just to fill the cupboard.

Any chance you could share some advice with me on how to deliver a sound explanation? I was wondering if a gap year, some volunteer work or attending some university courses like financial math courses could warrant the gap.

Looking forward to hearing your suggestion shortly.

Many thanks,

Okay,
So my first piece of advice: unquit and find yourself someone to help you with your applications. (but better a consulting firm which specializes in MBA and a general agent in china)

Seriously dude, not having a job is one of the WORST things you can have in your profile when you apply. Yes, it’s still possible to get in, and I’ve worked with many candidates who have gotten in while not having a job, but it’s HARDER and you get into a less good school.

So go get that job back! And once that’s done, then work on your applications.

If you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate!

Best,
Jon Frank
