With a 2.9 it’s a good idea to submit an essay about your GPA. The GMAT will help lots too, but showing and explanation is good.

Hey there,
Well it’s a liiittle bit hard to tell you where to go without a real GMAT. Let’s say that with a 720+ you should be fine for Top 20 schools.

I like your profile overall, and your PHD actually makes you pretty unique (as long as you make use of it in your goals, which for example in the medical field would be the case). 30 years old is a great age for you to apply. You have plenty of experience on the one hand, but aren’t toooooooo old on the other.

Your biggest issue is, as you pointed out your GPA, which will be very low for Top 10 schools, but you DO have a PhD and if you get that GMAT score up high it will help a lot.

The overall profile is good. The decision of pursuing an MBA at this point makes sense to me. Don't worry about UG gpa, which is unchangeable. Get as high GMAT as possible and provide necessary justification, if any. Focus on your strengths. Make sure your essay get your ideas accurately across. Brand yourself as a mature, thougtful applicant with profound industry expertise, strong leadership experience and transferrable skills. Convince AOs that you will be well-positioned for your career goal with the help of THE MBA (so make sure you do understand the highlights of different programs and put it in a way that they look like THE ONE for you).

I won't be too concerned. kellogg and Tuck are reasonal targets as long as you do everything right from now on.
