The human mind will always be superior to machines because machines are only tools of human minds.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.
With the development of science and technology, machines, especially computers have become more and more advanced. Some people believe that machines one day will own its intelligence like human minds and will even be superior to them, just as the scenarios depicted in the scientific fictions. However, others think machines are only tools created by the humans and will not exceed the capacity of human minds. As far as I am concerned, it is hard to say that human minds will always be superior than machines. Human minds are indeed superior than current machines in some aspect such as learning and thinking, while in some other aspects including calculation, current computers have already surpassed human minds.
Admittedly, human minds are smarter than current machines in some aspect, for example, learning and thinking. Programmers learn how to program from technical books and then they can develop a lot of useful software for users. Giving physicists observation data, they can discover physical laws behind the data. However, If we input characters of books or data into a computer, can the computer design a new program by itself or find out laws in data? It is obviously difficult for current computers. What they can do is just to store these books and display the data with curves or graphs.
However, in some other aspects such as calculation, machines have already surpassed human minds. For example, in scientific researches, scientists often need to get the solutions to complex mathematical equations. They can easily get the solutions with the help of computers while it is difficult or even impossible to solve these equations by themselves. What's more, the computational speed of a super computer now can reach to the order of magnitudes of thousand billion times per second. It is obviously impossible for human minds. So in terms of calculation, computers have already been much superior than human minds.
Additionally, the discussion above is under the current condition. It is hard to say that human minds will always be superior than machines in the future. From the facts that Deep Blue successfully won the chess master and the voice assistant Siri in iphone 4S can tell people almost anything they want to know, we can see that advanced machines already have a certain ability to think. Furthermore, many scientists in different countries are devoted to study the artificial intelligence, aimed at developing machines to perform tasks in a better way than the humans. As time goes on, it is likely for machines to have the capacity like human minds and even be superior than human minds in the future although they are only tools.
In conclusion, it is clear that human minds will not always be superior than machines. In some aspects such as calculation, machines have already surpassed the human minds. Although the capacity of current machines in other aspects such as learning and thinking cannot be compared with human minds, they have the potential to exceed human minds in the future. |
