是一篇有关作弊的那个。谢谢各位高手了。 30分钟限时作品,所以可能最后两段太简陋了。请见谅~ Based on unfounded assumptions and dubious evidence, the arguer draws a conclusion that students are less likely to cheat with an honor code in place than without. Thus, all colleges should adopt honor codes to decrease cheating rate.To substantiate his conclusion, the arguer points out the evidence that less students are caught cheating in the exams after the method of honor code is applied. In addition, the arguer cited the result of a survey that most students agree that the form of honor code is better. The arguer claims that result of the survey supported his conclusion.Though the argument might seems to be valid and convincing at first glance,it’s reasoning is seriously flawed. Many questions have to be answered before we evaluate the arguer’s conclusion.
First, whether the number of students caught cheating reflect the true situation? When the teachers are monitoring students in the exams in Groveton College,30 cases were reported; When the method of honor code was applied the first year, only 21 cases were reported. The arguer assumes that less cases were reported because less students were cheating in the exams.Though it might be true,it is also possible that student don’t want to tell on each other for their own benefit. For example,if student A told on student B,the next time student A cheats, student B will tell on him.So if they both keep silent, they both can cheat in the text.So I think the statistics can not reflect the real situation.Unless more solid evidence could be given,I can’t be convinced by the arguer.
Secondly, what does the change in numbers of students who is being caught in an exam implicate? The arguer believes that since the number of cheating reported declined five years after the method was applied,it must indicate that less students want to cheat because of the method. However, other explanation could be given. For example, students are tired of overseeing others during the examation, they stopped using this method.Or they found that using time to oversee others during the exam is time-consuming,they could use the time to answer more question, thus getting higher score.Unless the arguer can give more solid evidence to prove his assumption,I can’t agree with him.
Thirdly,is the survey conducted in the campus valid?Unless the arguer can prove that a wide range of students took part in the survey and the students are chosed randomly,I can’t trust the result of the survey. And also, the students might not took the survey seriously, so the result could be fallacious.
Last but not least, even if all of above proves the arguer right. It is also unwarranted to say that all other universities should apply the same method since the analogy is poorly given.Different school have different situations,it’s ungounded to give such an conclusion. |
