59) Scientists and other researchers shouldfocus their research on areas that are likely to benefit the greatest number ofpeople.

The arguer claims that the researchesshould take heed on areas that can benefit as many people as possible. I agreeinsofar that the scientists are supposed to discover mysteries that canpositively influence human society, while, all of these activities should not besimply  motivated by the human's mosturgent need. For the development of human society will not be effectively madeby people's need at present.

Admittedly, scientists are regarded as theproblem solvers who can facilitate the human’s life during the social advancement.Researchers, who are supported by the nation taxation, overcome obstacles toreach new achievements and then repay the fruit of hardworking to people. ThomasEdison who is called as "the king of invention", owned thousands ofpatents in his age. The most impressive moment in his career is that of bringingthe light to human's life. By inventing lamps, Edisonmade it possible for individuals to work in the night and enhance the productivityof human society greatly. While most of the people in the world benefit from hisin this way, Edison
is praised as the “Wizardof Menlo Park”.
In spite of the contributions of researcherstalked above, the scientists in the scientific activities can never be confinedrigidly in meeting people's increasing secular needs. Different from doctors, whose innate duty is one hundred percent diagnosing and solving patients'problems physically or mentally, the scientists, in a higher level, shoulder anindispensable responsible to foresee human's future and build a bridge to abetter world in front of us by means of their sophisticated technology. AlbeitEinstein, for example, spent all his life in researching Relativity which has almostnothing to do with most of the people in 1920s. But no one can deny the fact thatthis Jewish scientist pushed the human science and technology into the 21centryand physics text books in every country regard him as the greatest scientistsince Isaac Newton.

Actually, scientists in the world can bedivided into several categories such as those who devoted in applied scienceand those who are in the area of theoretical science. For the former kind ofresearchers whose domains can be automobile, energy, architecture, etc. Theirresearching products related with people's daily life firmly through the accomplishmentof modernization. Consequently these researchers are focus on the most hotlydebated issues such as saving gasoline during driving can benefit more thanmillions of ordinary people directly . While the latter kind of researchers canbe founding in the disciplines as mathematics, astronomy, and other seems"unworldly" areas. For them, people can not obviously obtain much ofthe immediate interests, However, people should not blame they for doing painstakingworks can spend taxation money while contribute few for common life. De facto, these"Hawking" style scientists are also thirsty for budgets with researchesbecause they contribute to the development of the overall human history in alone-term, they helped Armstrong to land on the moon, they explored the Mars incase that if one day earth is too crowded people can migrant to Martine forlife.

In retrospect, it seems precipitous forsome one to regard scientists' duty in satisfying the big number of people. Inthis way, his/her perspective of science is relatively narrowed and limited. Frommy point of view, the most rational way of a well-informed observer is encouragingscientists to stick to their principles of make full use of their knowledge nomatter it is exploring the unknown in the universe or inventing new laptops forcustomers.

benefit the greatest number不一定是指解决日常问题,现代科学家的成果都需要公司转化到日常应用;
