Malik's recipe for 4 servings fo a certain dish requires 3/2 cups of pasta. According to this recipe, what is the number of cups of pasta that Malik will use the next time he prepares this dish?

1) The next time he prepares this dish, Malik will make half as many servings as he did the last time he prepared the dish.

2)Malik used 6 cups of pasta the last time he prepared this dish.

Correct answer is C, I don't understand the relations at all.....please help~~~ thanks in advance...

well, in my opinion,

PREMISE: one serving includes a certain number of dishes.(we don't know the exact number),and a dish requires 3/2 cups of pasta.( it means 4Y=mX, and X=3/2pasta. )

QUESTION: nY require how many cups of pasta?

CONDITION ONE:if Malik make X servings next time.He did prepare 2X dishes last time.

CONDITION TWO: Malik used 6 cups of pasta the last time he prepared this dish.(it means 2X=6).

in this case, either CONDITION ONE or CONDITION TWO can not deduce the final answer in that the decisive factors m，n  are unknown.As a result, the correct answer is C.

我对原题的理解与7楼MM稍有不同，

原题理解：

Malik's recipe for 4 servings for a certain dish requires 3/2 cups of pasta。

这句话的主语是Malik's recipe， 谓语是requires。

也就是说Malik为4个serving做的菜谱需要3/2 cups的pasta， 这里的3/2 cups不能做定语修饰这certain dish，如果做定语的话，原句就不完整了。

做题：

如果题目问的是下次需要准备的多少pasta，（1）下次准备的是上次准备的一半。

－－原题没有提到上次准备了多少，所以A不对

（2）上次准备了6 cups，

－－这时（1）（2）联立，得出下次准备3 cups。

选C
