Do you agree or disagree that the best wayto improve the quality of education is to increase the salaries of teachers.
With the development of civilization, moreand more people start to realize the importance of education of the nextgeneration who carry the future on their shoulders. Therefore, there is auniversal yet partial awareness that the best approach to enhance the qualityof education is to pay teachers more money. However, I doubt whether thisstatement bears much analysis.
In the first place, it’s not necessary forthe salaries teachers receive to determine the quality of education. Other thanthe payment they get, many teachers in my university, especially those who havebeen teaching for over 20 years, are not motivated by money, but by their loveto students and teaching career to always deliver highly-qualified courses tothe class. For instance, my advanced algebra teacher in my freshman year, agrey-hair gentleman, Chen Ziyi, has been giving speech on this subject for over35 years to thousands of students, he was never promoted to Professor nor getcompensation for his devotion to teaching career, yet he has always preparedhis teaching material way ahead of schedule, never called for sick leave, andgraded every homework we handed over. After his retirement, he even gave ussome textbooks to encourage us to further study algebra. We can tell that Mr.Chen was definitely not driven by money.
It is undeniable that people like theteacher I mentioned above are rare today because of the severe economicsituation and diverse values people hold, more and more people includingteachers that bear the job of guiding the next generation consider financialcondition seriously when they are deciding which job to choose and how tofulfill their work. Nevertheless, the salaries teachers get are still not thedeciding factor for the quality of education since there are lots of ways toeducate next generation besides receiving education from school.
Firstly, there’s no better natural teacherthan their parents for children. Upon his/her birth, a kid starts his/her longlearning life by being taught how to eat, how to sit, how to walk and how toread. For example, children always have the best ability to imitate. Sincefamily members are the most direct sources of imitation, it would be a disasterif the parents show impoliteness, impatience or even violence. On the contrary, parents can also set up good models for their children with good mannerstowards each other, the elder and the society. Moreover, as they start to growup, children will start to learn from the whole society. Different kinds ofmedia such web, advertisement and neighborhood become source of education.
In short, although money may have become agreat incentive for teachers to improve the quality of teaching, it is neitherthe only driving force nor the only way for next generation to get good and meaningfuleducation.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? In the past young people depended on their parents for making decisions. Today, young people are better able to make decisions on their own.
Many people believe that since parents have gone through much more than their children, thus bearing more experiences and mature thoughts, they are able to make better judgments. However, I prefer to believe that it’s the young people nowadays that do a better job at making choices by themselves than by their parents.
First and foremost, young people in this generation possess much more accesses to various kinds of information and thus are more experienced than their counterparts before. With the advent of the Internet, pieces of information are much more approachable than before, which makes young generation have great advantage over their parents who may have a poor grasp of computer usage or information collecting. On the other hand, the society is much more open now than at the time of our parent generation, while the young step into the complicated environment earlier, getting more experiences. For example, when my friend Chen Jiang was deciding which school and what major to choose when it came to college entering season, his parents can barely help him except telling him to make decision on his own. Chen’s parents are ordinary factory workers who only finished their high school. They don’t have ears for university enrollment, nor do they know how the employment situation after graduation these days. On the contrary, Chen did his homework with diverse sources of information. He searched online for ranking and enrolling requirements of every school he had considered, talked with classmates and teachers for information exchanging, and even went to some information sessions held by college enrollment offices. After gathering and sorting comprehensive knowledge of each school, Chen made a pro-con list, scored all the school listed, and finally came up with 6 candidates with 6 major preferences respectively. It turns out that he was enrolled by his 3rd candidate school and graduated with a 10 thousand-salary job in a consulting firm.
What’s more, parents always make the call not merely because they are superior over their children at decision making, but because it has been their job owing to Chinese traditions. Unlike American parents, Chinese parents hold the habit of supporting their children even the youth are over 18 years old. Since the folks control the financial resources, it’s not surprising that they also take charge of making decisions. In contrast, American young people who are “”thrown out” by their parents once they turn to 18, have no choice but to make their own decisions about how to raise the money for college and how to get a part-time job for the bills. Once young people are forced to live independently, they grow up fast enough to make ends meet.
In conclusion, although parents can sometimes analyze situations more thoroughly and therefore make better judgment, young people are more capable now because their ability of collecting information and analyzing problems have enhanced with the assistance of the Internet and social skills. If the parents let go of their children to make decisions on their own, they can outperform their parents.
