文中说regardless of its age,那就是不考虑age了么。为什么这里还质疑age

我的理解是：

Jarvis' work 认为与 age 无关，但前文提到 "...are related primarily to reproductive status
                (reproduction being limited to the queen and
                    a few males), body size, and perhaps age. " 认为是和 age相关的，所以这两者就出现了一个关于 age 的矛盾。

 call into question 查字典的话是怀疑的意思，文中不是用了ｒｅｇａｒｄｌｅｓｓ　ｏｆｉｔｓ　ａｇｅ吗？说明Ｊａｒｖｉｓ得出的结论并没有考虑到ａｇｅ，因此ａｇｅ是被怀疑的～～～

路過看到，把 regardless of 想成无关。(0%)
一开始作者写或许是age，有可能是有可能不是(50%)。
後面引用某学者，而说age是无关，此学者完全否定掉可能性，就代表他认为「有可能是age这件事情，他质疑之，他觉得是一点都没有关系。」
