Cutting-edge bioinformatics research, office with an ocean view, living in
paradise, and surfing…do these things even intersect?
Yes! Dr. Garmire's group at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center (one of
the 68 NCI designated cancer centers)is a thriving, productive and well-
connected team. The Cancer Epidemiology
Program is the flagship of UH Cancer Center ranked highly nationally.
Garmire group has received over 2.3 million NIH funding as a toddler group,
and has published/submitted over 10 quality journal papers in year 2014!
Postdoc and PhD graduate student assistant positions are available in
translational cancer bioinformatics, in the areas of single cell sequencing
and big cancer genomics data integration. Collaboration opportunities with
world-renowned investigators are bountiful. More information about the group

Requirement:
1. Having a BS or MS degree in bioinformatics, mathematics,
statistics, or computer science.
2. Good academic standing (GPA 3.5 or above)
3. Experience in programming languages such as Matlab, R, C, C++, and
Java.
4. Efficient with scripting languages such as Perl. Familiar with Unix OS
.
5. Sufficient coursework in statistics, mathematics, or computer science.
6. Experience in machine learning and data mining.
7. Exhibits motivation, persistence and a strong desire to learn.
8. Has the ability to be a good team player with a collaborative spirit.
9. Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written English.
10. Demonstrates flexibility and ability to lead in the projects with
guidance from the mentor.
