I'd say go to the US. Tokyo is a good university, but reputation wise it's not really on par with Columbia; it's also gonna be difficult to secure a full-time job in the US without being physically present in the US. Of course you can take the internal transfer route with the L1 visa, but that means you'll have to waste a few years in Japan or somewhere else first, it's not worth it. IMHO, don't worry too much about money at this point, if you gotta take out a student loan then just do it. Step back and look at the bigger picture, our lifetime income is gonna be on the scale of millions, don't let a 50K difference alter your decision, your ultimate goal is worth much more than that. Just my 2 cents. |
