”这一年的数据没有代表性，也许这一年的数据只是个巧合，而现实中其他年份的情况都与之不同”这句话如何用引文表达呢？谢谢各位了。
提纲：1 两年的数据不说明问题，有事故不代表是teenager的责任，是teenager也不一定和学校有关系。
2作者没提出证据证明parents不会交钱来让孩子上驾校，也没有提出证据说明学校有能力做这个项目。
3作者遗忘了其他可能性能够解决这个问题的。
The following appeared in a letter to the school board in the town of Centerville.
"All students should be required to take the driver's education course at Centerville High School. In the past two years, several accidents in and around Centerville have involved teenage drivers. Since a number of parents in Centerville have complained that they are too busy to teach their teenagers to drive, some other instruction is necessary to ensure that these teenagers are safe drivers. Although there are two driving schools in Centerville, parents on a tight budget cannot afford to pay for driving instruction. Therefore an effective and mandatory program sponsored by the high school is the only solution to this serious problem."
Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on these assumptions and what the implications are for the argument if the assumptions prove unwarranted.
Based on unfounded assumptions and dubious evidences,the arguer recommend that the school should sponsor an effective and mandatory driving program.To substantiate his recommendation,the arguer points out the evidence that several accidents in and around Centerville have invovled teenage drivers. In addition,the arguer assumes that parents on a tight budget cannot afford to pay for driving instruction.Though the argument might seems to be valid and convincing at first glance, the arguer’s assumptions are seriously flawed,it omit some substantial concerns that should be addressed to sbustantiate the argument.
To begin with,the arguer recommendation is based on the underlying assumption that a lot of students in Centerville are irresponsible drivers,thus they need to take driver’s education course.However,the arguer’s assumption is based on the evidence that a lot of teenager were involved in traffic accidents in the past two years.However, the arguer’s reasoning have several problems.First,the arguer believe that the statistics in two years could reflect the true situation.Yet,it might be true that in most of the years,few teenagers involved in traffic accidents.It was a coincidence that so many teenagers were involved in traffic accidents in the pass two years. Second,the arguer fails to substantiate that some of the teenagers are from Centerville High School.If none of the students came from Centerville,it is not necessary to open a driver’s education course in the school.Third,the arguer fails to prove that the teenagers are responsible for the accidents.If the teenagers are not responsible for the accidents,why should we open course to teacher these teenagers?Unless the arguer could rule out these possiblitiies,we can not agree with the arguer’s recommendation.
Second,the arguer didn’t give any evidence to support his claim that parents on a tight budget cannot afford to pay for driving instruction.Since the safety of children are the most important thing for parents,even the driving instruction is expensive,they will still let their children go to driving schools.So the unjustified assumption cannot support the arguer’s recommendation.
Moreover,the arguer fails to substantiate that the school has the ability to sponsor an effective and mandatory program.Since such programs would cost a lot of money,the school might not have the ability to sponsor such programs.
Last but not least,the aruger assumes that no method other than sponsoring an driver’s education program could be the solution to this serious problem.However,this assumption is a poor one.Since other method,to be specific,limiting speed of driving,could be a good way to solve the problem.Unless the arguer could rule out the other possible solutions for solving the problem,the arguer’s recommendation can’t be accepted. |
