我的理解：
1、指代trying to keep down the body temperature deep inside the body，这个动作是一个消耗水和能量的事

2、as well指的是除了certain qualities of beauty and expressiveness以外，含蓄也是美学的一个原则
implicit in it主语
is 谓语
an aesthetic principle宾语
