61. People should undertake risky action only after they have carefully considered its consequences.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position.
提纲：1.做事之前考虑后果，可以帮助我们降低风险，少做无所谓的牺牲
2. 但是人类的理性是有限的，获得的信息不可能达到完整，所以不可能百分之一百对后果进行准确的估测，如果凡是都要考虑后果而不敢冒险，那么人类文明就会裹足不前；有些事情你是没有时间去考虑后果的，就像突发灾难面前人们救人的迅速。
3. 人类进步和个人发展，即使前面有风险，也要往前冲。但我们可以将我们能收集到的信息尽可能充分利用分析；将计划分布实施，将大风险分解为小风险，将风险降到我们能承受的范围。

With the explosive development of science and technology, people learn to estimate the possible consequence by the advanced equipment and technology before they undertake risky action. Though it is helpful to prepare relevant measures and reduce the plausible risk, we could not and shouldn’t consider the consequences of all the actions.
Admittedly, taking the consequences into consideration before actions is beneficial for us to meet with success. It would inform us the possible conditions and potential hazards, so we could take safeguard to prevent the unfavorable condition in advance. As the old saying goes, work out the plans and strategies before a battle. During the Warring States Period, wars are so frequent that the generals have to consider the possible consequence by assessing the military strength and strategies if an imperial wants to survive. It would avoid the unnecessary sacrifice of soldiers and reserve the strength of the imperial to beat the enemy.
However, sometimes we could not make an estimation before we act, such as an outburst of a catastrophe. Heroes who have rescued people in danger when an sudden disaster happens always haven’t consider the consequences of his/her action. If heroes scruple the danger to themselves before they save the trapped people, they would hesitate and miss the optimal opportunity to save lifes. In addition, considering the limited information accessibly, we couldn’t foresee all the situations in the case. If we are too scared of the risks to take any action, then we would fear to move forward and be unlikely to make progress. So does the human civilization, human couldn’t advance if scientists are afraid the hazards coming along with their experiments so as to stop their research. So we cannot and should not consider the consequence of our actions in some specific situations.
Factually, though there’re risks we should be brave enough to take the risks and complete the task. However, we could take our best to collect information as many as possible. And by analyzing the information and carrying on the task step by step, we would transfer the total risk into several small risks of each step that we have the capacity to undertake. Such as conducting an experiment, maybe we would fail at once if we put in all the reactants into reaction. But we could also take several reactions following a proper sequence which we could control the conditions in every small reaction.
In summary, to some extent ,we should consider the consequences before we take some risky actions. However, we shouldn’t estimate too many consequences of all the actions in some specific situations and we ought to learn to collect the information and reduce the risk to the extent we could undertake. |
