Do you agree or disagree with thefollowing statement? The main role of a university professor is to educatestudents rather than to do research.

What is the role of university professors? To instill stimulating academic knowledge or spend more time to do research. Despitevarious responses people may have on the topic concerning the issue regard whicharea should the professor aim. I, give a chance, prefer to endorse thatpreparing for research should the professor aim at.

First of all, educating students are noimportance than academic research. Admittedly, students go to university forthe sake of study, in most of the cast, they learn about fresh and stimulating thoughtsand valuable experience from their professors. It is obvious that professors dominatethe key role in young individual’s study. But it does not mean that professorsspend time on research should take second place.

If a professor’s research is successful itcould benefit both the university and students. First, excellent researchachievements go a long way to improve the university’s reputation. There is nodenying that higher reputation indicates the better university and graduates. Ahigher ranked university certificate gives the student a competitive edge inthis age of intense workplace completion. Nowadays, a university certificate isoften an important factor in terms of differentiating yourself, since employerswill give students from better universities preference over other pooreducation background candidates. Further, the university would be able toreceive the government funds or donations by their professors’ excellentresearch. Thus, those universities could dedicate colossal amount of money toimprove the research infrastructure, recreation facilities or even offeringsome scholarships to students. In short, students can actually benefit from theprofessor’s excellent research.

Moreover, professors can stay on top of theacademic information when they focus in the research. In other words, they cankeep update their professional information rather than stay in the knowledge whichprinted in the textbooks ages ago. Meanwhile, the professors who focus onresearch are more likely to be enthusiastic instructors because they will be excitingabout their novel discoveries and eager to share this interesting finding withtheir students.

In a nutshell, I still regard professorsshould focus on their research rather than teaching, although it might bringsome minor effects. As long as we keep a balance mood on the fruit of research, they are sure to contribute more in the future.

The lecturer rejects thereading argues that the disadvantages of online encyclopedias outweigh itsbenefits. And in the lecture, she uses three specific points to support heridea.

Firstly, even though the reading passage suggeststhat the inaccuracy information presented in the online encyclopedia, due tolack of professional knowledge among contributors, the professor admit thatcommunal online encyclopedias may have errors or mistakes, like any referencebook. However online encyclopedias are much easier to make correction oradjustment than traditional encyclopedias. This is because the onlineencyclopedias can just make the correction at the fingertips, but the paperencyclopedias would leave the errors in a long term period, or even forever.

Further, despite the reading advocates thepossibilities of hackers and virus might attack the internet-basedencyclopedias; the instructor contends that the information on onlineencyclopedias can only be read-only format. In other words, users can only viewthe information but not edit the data. Not to mention, the specific editors whoconstantly monitor contents online so they can quickly remove a suspiciouschange once it is detected. Could make changes to the online information, sohackers are virtually impossible attack the online information.

Finally, the lecturer challenges the final downsideof the wide range materials stated in the online encyclopedias mentioned in thereading. The speaker reminds us that the limited space in the paper-basedencyclopedias and topics were chosen by the experts. In other words, they arebiased by the experts` viewpoints. But within the unlimited space in internet-basedencyclopedias, which enable a diversity topics that general public genuinelyinterested.

What is the role of university professors? (应该空一格)To instill stimulating academic knowledge or spend more time to do research? Despitevarious responses people may have on the topic concerning the issue regard whicharea should the professor aim.(这句话读不懂啊即使把despite variouswhich area分开来看也不能理解,到底要表达的什么) I, give a chance, prefer to endorse thatpreparing(that preparing) for research should the professor aim at.

First of all, educating students are
noimportance(记得分开啊后面的我直接改了) than academic research. Admittedly, students go to university for the sake of study, in most of the cast(in most of the case?), they learn about fresh and stimulating thoughtsand(??) valuable experience from their professors. It is obvious that professors dominate the key role in young individual’s study. But it does not mean that professors spend time on research should take second place.

If a professor’s research is successful it could benefit both the university and students. First, excellent research achievements go a long way to improve the university’s reputation. There is no denying that higher reputation indicates the better university and graduates. A higher ranked university certificate gives the student a competitive edge in this age of intense workplace completion. Nowadays, a university certificate is often an important factor in terms of differentiating yourself, since employers will give students from better universities preference over other poor education background candidates.
(give后面的内容是什么)Further, the university would be able to receive the government funds or donations by their professors’ excellent research. Thus, those universities could dedicate(奉献么?个人感觉用invest) colossal amount of money to improve the research infrastructure, recreation facilities or even offering some scholarships to students. In short, students can actually benefit from the professor’s excellent research. (这段论的很好,但是我想提一点建议,这段应当直接放在2段的后面.而把admittedly让步的内容移到单独的第四段.变成first of all… , moreover…..,admittedly….的结构这样更有层次感,结构也更加清晰.)

Moreover, professors can stay on top of the academic information when they focus in the research. In other words, they can keep update their professional information rather than stay in the knowledge which printed in the textbooks ages ago. Meanwhile, the professors who focus on research are more likely to be enthusiastic instructors because they will be exciting about their novel discoveries and eager to share this interesting finding with their students.

In a nutshell, I still regard professors should focus on their research rather than teaching, although it might bring some minor effects. As long as we keep a balance mood on the fruit of research, they are sure to contribute more in the future.

多注意单词与单词间的间隔,这种错误出现了很多次了.结构在注意一下.我也很长时间没写了本来写的就不好..水平有限..错误的地方希望也告诉我一下.大家共同进步

The professor actually contradicts thestatements made in the reading passage. He is of the view that the U.S. woodcompanies should adopt the eco-certification in the future. In the lecture, heuses three specific points to support his idea.

Firstly, even though the reading passagesuggests that American consumers do not trust eco-certification labels, the professordisagrees with this opinion. He then proves by the fact that U.S. customers distinguishdifferent companies' label. For example, American consumers pay higher value onlabels whichcertified by third-party consumer agency rather than the company owncertification. Thus, American consumers are willing to trust the eco-certificationbecause it is an international independent agency.

Furthermore, despite the reading passagesuggests that the American consumers will choose affordable uncertifiedwoods rather than expensive eco-certified wood, the instructor argues in thelecture that consumers consider factors other than price when the price of twoproducts are similar (less than 5% difference). Therefore, U.S. consumers willtend to ignore the price difference and choose the eco-friendly woods.

Finally, according to the professor, receiving the eco-certification is an important strategy to compete with theforeign business. Even though U.S. wood companies mainly focus their businessdomestically, but foreign eco-certified wood business can enter the U.S. marketin order to complete with the domestic business. On the contrary, the readingclaims this strategy is unnecessary because American consumers arelikely to purchase domestically manufactured products, even if they are not eco-certified.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Movies and televisionhave more negative effects than positive effects on the way young peoplebehave.

During thepast century witnessed the technology innovation like television and movies hasbrought dramatic transformation in people's life. It is televisions and moviesthat bring audience up-to-the-minutes information, wide varieties of programsto expand their outlooks and a significant of leisure activity to relive thestress from jobs and study. I firmly believe that TV and films bring a positiveinfluence on the way of young people behave.

TV andmovies provide up-to-the minute information, which enables young people to knowwhat`s going on the world. By watching news, such as CNN news, can satisfy yourcuriosity about the world, and make young people's mind more analytical andinsightful. Television shapes our understanding of what is important and whatis not important. Important news headlines inform us the critical informationthat even seemingly unrelated to our life. For example, the US war in Iraq seemed to have no connection with the livesof the taxi driver in Hong Kong. But thefollowing wild fluctuations in the oil price have definitely made them feel theinfluence. Therefore, watching TV and movies can make young people more aware ofthe important issues around the world.

Another rationale for benefitof watching TV is that the wide-range programs can be used as supplementaryteaching tools. TV and movies provide ample informative information, fromcooking to fashion, from history to geology and from cartoon to science. ManyAmerican students, once they get back home, the first thing that they do be toturn on the television. Therefore, recommending to their students informativeTV programs that contain reflections on history, economy, science, or astronomycan really help teachers extend teaching into their student's leisure time. Itis confirmed by researches in Stanford University that kids whowatch informative and educational shows as preschoolers tend to watch moreinstructive and enlightening shows when they get older. After all, they use televisioneffectively as a complement to school learning.

Yet another reason for thepositive contributes of TV and movies can drive away stress and pressures fromstudy. Later on, they can get refreshing and boost their efficiency and focuson their studies. Nothing can be more relaxed than sitting on the couch andwatching a funny drama. Admittedly, some people argue that young people shouldspend their leisure time on some healthy activities, such as jogging, visitingmuseums, playing piano and so on, instead on being a couch potato. Of course,TV is a means for young people to relax, but I am of the point that youthshould not be obsessed by TV.

In a nutshell, I still regardTV and movies as essential supplementary tool for student's education, although it might bring a minor side effect. As long as we keep a balance moodon TV and movies, they are sure to bring a positive influence on young people.

The professor actually contradicts the statements made in the reading passage. He is of the view that the U.S. woodcompanies should adopt the eco-certification in the future. In the lecture, heuses three specific points to support his idea.

Firstly, even though the reading passage suggests that American consumers do not trust eco-certification labels, the professor disagrees with this opinion. He then proves by the fact that U.S. customers distinguish different companies' label. For example, American consumers pay higher value on labels which (这里少了are吧?)certified by third-party consumer agency rather than (这里最好加上by,比较更清晰明确)the company (这里应该必须是一个定从,所以少了who吧?而且own应该是单数呢,因为前面是company)own certification. Thus, American consumers are willing to trust the eco-certification because it is an international independent agency(because后面这句话里面的it按照语法角度来说是指代eco-certification的,那么这句话提炼主干出来就是eco-certificaitionis an agency,就不太恰当了吧?).

Furthermore, despite the reading passage suggests that the American consumers will choose affordable uncertified woods rather than expensive eco-certified wood, the instructor argues in thelecture that consumers consider factors other than price when the price(后面是are那这里就是prices喽~) of twoproducts are similar (less than 5% difference). During the past century(这里的during可以去掉的说) witnessed the technology innovation like(按照最正规的语法来讲like不能用来举例,应该是such as才对呦~) television and movies has brought dramatic transformation in people's life(个人认为lz这里是想说电视和电影一起带来变化吧?如果是这个意思的话那这句话里面就有了两个谓语了witnessed和has brought). It is televisions and moviesthat bring audience up-to-the-minutes information, wide varieties of programsto expand their outlooks and a significant of leisure activity to relive thestress from jobs and study. I firmly believe that TV and films bring a positiveinfluence on the way of young people behave(of是介词,young people behave是一个完整句子了,介词后面不能加句子哈).

TV andmovies provide up-to-the minute information, which enables young people to knowwhat`s going on the world. By watching news, such as CNN news, (木有主语呀?)can satisfy yourcuriosity about the world, and make young people's mind more analytical andinsightful. Television shapes our understanding of what is important and whatis not important. Important news headlines inform us the critical informationthat even seemingly unrelated to our life. For example, the US war in Iraq seemed to have no connection with the livesof the taxi driver in Hong Kong. But thefollowing wild fluctuations in the oil price have definitely made them(lz前面写的是driver单数,那这里的them就没有指代喽~) feel theinfluence.

ManyAmerican students, once they get back home, the first thing that they do be toturn on the television(这句话没有谓语,主语说了两遍,个人认为可以改为As for the American students, the first thing they will do after getting home is to turn on the television). Therefore, recommending to their students informativeTV programs that contain reflections on history, economy, science, or astronomycan really help teachers extend teaching into their student's(students' 更好吧?) leisure time. Itis confirmed by researches in Stanford University that kids whowatch informative and educational shows as preschoolers tend to watch moreinstructive and enlightening shows when they get older. After all, they use televisioneffectively as a complement to school learning.

Yet another reason for thepositive contributes(contribute是动词,这里应该为contributions) of TV and movies (这里应该加上is that they)can drive away stress and pressures fromstudy. Later on, they can get refreshing and boost their efficiency and focuson their studies(这里的they和their都没有指代~).

As long as we keep a balance mood on(这里的on改为between是不是更好?) TV and movies, they are sure to bring a positive influence on young people.

Although science and technology willcontinue to improve, the most significant improvement for the quality ofpeople’s lives have already taken place.
During the lastcentury witnessed the great advance in science and technology. Some peopleclaim that even though science and technology will continue to improve, themost essential progression for the standard of people’s lives already takenplace. I frown on this opinion. I firmly believe that science and technologywill continue to upgrade people’s life in a more significant way than in thepast.

Admittedly, new breakthroughsin medical science allow human eradicate diseases that have killed millions oflives in the past century, including TB and malaria. Thanks to the medical innovationlike laser surgery is helping doctors immensely simplify operations that usedto involved complicated scalpels. There is no denying that health and sanitary conditionhas improved dramatically during the past decades. Thanks to the modern medicaladvancements, such as immunization vaccines and organ transplants, millions oflife safe by the modern medical advancements. However, some diseases are still remainingfatal in the present, including AIDS and cancer. In this case, there are stillplenty of rooms for the medical science to improve in order to help million ofpeople suffer from incurable disease.

Telecommunicationis another area where improvement of people’s life. People used to communicatewith each other with “sail mail”, which means they have to go to the postoffice, bough an envelope and stick the stamp before they finally could gettheir mail into the mail bag. Now telecommunication technologies have fastenedthe process by a click of bottom to reach our love ones. Even though we nowenjoying fastened and convenient communication with people across globally, newadvances in technology and telecommunication are still offering newpossibilities for improvement, such as s in telecommunication and informationprocessing are still offering new possibilities for boost its speed, quality, diversities and cost reduction. The example of China’s internet speed matchesmy point of view perfectly. In 2013, China will have mobile phone internetspeed up to 5 times than current technologies after the establishment of 4Gnetwork, and we cannot predict some further improvement in the future.

In a nutshell, Istill regard the improvement of the future technology and science asincreasingly upgrade. Indeed, there are countless other areas where theinnovations in science and technology can make people’s live healthier, easierand more enjoyable.

The lecturer actually contradicts with thestatements made in the lecture. The reading passage doubts the accuracy ofChevalier's memoir, but the professor is of the view that the memoir is areliable historical resource. In the lecture, she uses three specific points todemonstrate her idea.

Firstly, according to the reading passage,Chevalier borrowed some money when he was in Switzerland which contradicts withthe memoir that he was very wealthy. On the contrary, the professor argues thatChevalier was indeed rich, but he just need some time to transfer his assetsinto cash. In other words, Chevalier was just borrowed some cash while waitinghis properties transfer into clash.

Moreover, despite the reading passagedoubts the accuracy of the conversations between Chevalier and Voltaire, theprofessor contradicts with this opinion. He then proves by the fact thatChevalier had a habit of making notes each night after he had conversation withVoltaire. Also, Chevalier refers to the notes when he composed the memoir, which means, the memoir was indeed trustworthy.

Finally, the professor disproves thecritics skeptical Chevalier's escape from the Italian prison mentioned in thereading passage. He reminds us even some powerful prisoners cannot escape fromthe jail, which means bribed cannot purchase freedom. Also, the governmentdocuments reveal the repair work after Chevalier's prison break, which was anaccurate evidence to prove Chevalier's escape.
