The speaker thinks theyshould because accepting truly education is acquiring knowledge of diversifiedacademic disciplines. I totally agree with the speaker. This kind of educationis good for students for the chance of broadening horizons and be morecompetitive in the future. And it also contributes to build the disciplinesfully filled with vitality and energy; and furthermore, it can also lead to thesuccess of the whole nation. Turning first to the students' level, undergraduates of universities, unlike graduates, should contact more with thebeautiful world and learn more knowledge of various academic disciplines. Someopposing ideas will say that students in universities are those who have chosentheir major and research direction, and they should contribute all their heartand soul in the discipline they like. To my observation, I admit insofar as thefact that they should concentrate on what they like, however, contributing alltheir heart in their major is needless and even harmful. As we know, undergraduates are those who have just step in the major they chose, whichmeans they are not studying the most advanced knowledge of their discipline butsome basic things. In this way, some additional knowledge from other subjectsrelating to or not relating to the major they choose is definitely helpful andit can enlighten the students of applying knowledge from other disciplines towhat they study in. Additionally, Teachers and the universitiescan also benefit from students' acquiring knowledge of various academicdisciplines. For instance, if one student who is majoring in computer sciencehas also studied much about mathematics, this student can think about themathematical knowledge when he is in his computer classes, and therefore, hemay come up with many new and interesting ideas that the teachers with onlycomputer science background haven't thought about. And in this way, thespecific computer science class is vitalized and the constructing ideas may bea good study topic. As a consequence, both teachers and the universities willbenefit from it. Finally, the nation can also acquire lotsof unexpected benefits. If this educating method is adopted, graduates ofuniversities will be equipped with comprehensive educated background andtherefore students' potential of creativity can be inspired. No matter whatoccupation of those graduates will take, they will contribute their knowledgeof various disciplines to their work. So a more promising and burgeoning fieldcan be built. It's beneficial to the development of a nation and willstrengthen the nation's fulfillment in all aspects. To sum up, a try of universities' requiringevery student to take a variety of courses outside their major field isbeneficial to the students themselves, the teachers and universities and eventhe whole nation. Youth with comprehensive educated background and creativitywill build the nation better and competitive on the international stage. |
