This claim is constituted with three parts, 1) people rely more and more on technology to solve problem; 2)the ability of humans think for themselves will surely deteriorate; 3)the two above related causally, as the former one will definitely lead to the later. Viewed in this way, we can easily find the third part of the claim is not quite sound, while the rest two are all possible and reasonable.

Admittedly, technology does play a crucial role in human history, and bring so much convenience to our daily life that far beyond we can imagine. Thanks to technology, we are pretty smoothly dealing with the main physical and mental tasks. What we eat just changed from raw material to simply cooked things, and finally forming the shape of various and tasty dishes, such as India
curry, Japanese sushi, people enjoy today. What we read, at the same time, turning from inscription on bones or bamboo slips into paper-based books, and finally into icons in the iPad. Technology is such an amazing thing; no doubt the whole society is fostering an increasingly reliance on it, both physically and mentally.

However, every coin gets two sides. It is impossible to find something absents of flaw. Advanced technology brings populace not only a path to achieve the enjoyable lifestyle, but paradoxically a rush of enticement, which lead a regress of human’s thinking ability to some extent.

Delicious and delicate dishes together with complicated or even noxious additives, easy and quick accesses to gain knowledge come along with oceans of information, alluring but easy to addict. These, however, largely affect our thinking ability; drop our self-control to the bottom-line. Human are fragile creature. The veneer of civilization and moral is too gossamer to resist the enticement technology created, original desires just gush out. Once motivated by them, one may gobble junk food without caring for his health; miss in the fictional world without paying attention to the real one; lose the rational part of ourselves without noticing.

As mentioned at the beginning, we can hardly draw the conclusion that the ability of humans think for themselves will deteriorate from people’s growing reliance on technology. The claim is falsely built on an assumption that technology can solve every single problem people confront to. Thus, under that condition, there is little opportunity for people to think for themselves. Nevertheless, technology still cannot solve certain problems in the world-scale actually. For instance, since the insufficient source and the unequally distribution, children in some famine-stricken area are horribly gaunt, harrowed by disease and starvation, people in some part of the world live a destitute and homeless life under the threat of war. A popular picture last year shows an African child lying on the ground, suffering from disease and hunger. Besides it printed ‘Nothing has changed after Steve Jobs’ death’.

To solve, or better to use the word ‘ease’, the above problems, people have to aware their existence at the first place. The appearance of that picture itself shows people’s awareness, and indicates the process of consistent thinking, for the world, the human race.

After common attention formed, figuring out the solution still need the participation of human mind. Hundreds of particular- aimed NGOs constituted, millions of volunteers sent, billions of fund donated. Then constitutions should be created, special training given, detailed plan made. Our brains just get no time to rest for even one second. No reason this part of function will be deteriorated. It is true that the end of these proposals may be largely waked without the support of technology. However, the newly designed gun means nothing apart from the right target, technology only fit its role after being earnestly and wisely analyzed. It is human, not the technology, that doing this thinking process.

In conclusion, the claim simply views the technology in a negative perspective, while neglect its beneficial part towards human mind. My opinion is to consider the ‘the ability of humans to think for themselves’ partially. For one hand, the ability of figuring out the right choice for individual’s life-long well-being, despite the allure which brings to people by technology, is declining remarkably. While the capability remains the same level, even, to some extent, increased a bit with the help of technology.
