Some people choose friends who are different from themselves. Others choose friends who are similar to themselves. Compare the advantages of having friends who are different from you with the advantages of having friends who are similar to you. Which kind of friend do you prefer fro yourself? Why?
Some people choose friends who are different from themselves, and others choose friends who are similar to themselves. If anyone asks me which kind of friend I prefer, I would rather answer to say that the friends I am similar to will be my choice. In the following analysis, I would like to present several reasons to support my position.
Above all, the communication between people who are similar to will be much more smooth and easier than that of people who are different from each other. Undoubtedly, in such an active world, the communication is one of the most important things in our life, and it is evident that the more same interests people have, the more topics they can talk about, and the more easily they can keep their friendship. For example, two persons sitting in the animal-hospital waiting for their respective pet that is in the operating room will become friends easily, because they are similar in that they all animal lovers. Whereby, it is a nightmare for one who loves peace in the world but talks with somebody who is looking forward the World War III.
Another reason for me to support my opinion is that people can give or take help to or from his friends comfortably and appropriately if his friends are similar to him. We are encountering many kinds of problems everyday, and the help from friends can comforts and encourage us. But the people who are different from one being in trouble might provide the help one is unwilling to accept or accept uncomfortably. For instance, discouragement is not a good means to stimulate people to work hard, but it will work sometimes, and only the friends who are similar to one can know when and how to use that tool.
Perhaps, one will present some advantages of having friends who are different. For example, people can broaden their scope and knowledge, learn many other kinds of ways to resolve problems, or improve their social ability if they have friends who are different from themselves. However, I need to point out that these advantages cannot keep or strengthen the friendship between people because these people are lack of similarity, which is the base of friendship.
In conclusion, although there are some advantages of having friends who are different from me, which can promote my work and life, I prefer to choose friends who are similar to myself because they can bring me coziness, freedom and happiness that people who are different from myself will not provide, and that I think are the most important criteria in choosing friends. |
