2. We have to go back to the basics of "ASSUMPTION". It is a required condition, without which the conclusion of the argument cannot hold. For example, all human being have to eat to survive. Therefore Tom has to eat. The assumption of this argument is Tom is human being. It is not stated. However, it must be true for conclusion to hold.

In this question, there is a gap in the argument: personality and occupation. Let me simply the reasoning: handwriting is related to personality. Therefore, it should also be related to occupation. The assumption that personality relates to occupation filled the gap. If E is not true, and there is not relationship between the two, the original conclusion will not hold.

If D is not true, the conclusion is not affected. Therefore D is not the answer. If the conclusion is that we should use techniques other than graphology to predict personality, then D is the answer because there has to be at least one other technique.

9 is not normally seen in GMAT. It is called circular reasoning. For example: AAA is the best insurance company. That is why I use it. Since I use it, AAA must be the best. In a reasoning, there is premise and conclusion. Premise cannot be the conclusion of the conclusion. Conclusion cannot be the premise of the premise. hehe...
