What we today call American folk art was , indeed , art of , by , and for ordinary, everyday  "folk" who, with increasing prosperity and leisure , created a market for art of all kinds , and especially for portraits.

i re-write the sentence for you.

what we today call American folk art was indeed art of everyday folk, which was created by ordianary and also created for the ordinary. And the ordinary,  with increasing prosperity and leisure, created a market for art of all kinds and especially for protraits.

I guess you can see the meaning now.

i re-write the sentence for you.

what we today call American folk art was indeed art of everyday folk, which was created by ordianary and also created for the ordinary. And the ordinary,  with increasing prosperity and leisure, created a market for art of all kinds and especially for protraits.

I guess you can see the meaning now.

American folk art was art of folk, written by folk and for folk. Folk created a market.

从everyday  "folk" who, with increasing prosperity and leisure , created a market for art of all kinds , and especially for portraits.
