E中 would have been 指的是本应该做而没做的事，而原义实际上已经是事实。

语气一变，意思就变了。所以E很好排除的。

至于be able to和can在GMAT中最好不作为主要排除的问题点，先找其他的问题。

最后分辨时：

be able to是强调有能力

can是可以，不一定主语有能力。
