意思是说，原文表达的是这个东西虽然不是哺乳动物进化的主线，但还是从一个共同祖先进化过来的，而be independent of 的表达是两者全不相干

关于上述og解释前面有很多争论，但结果似乎不是很明确。

（1）that the type of mammal mentioned was thought to have developed independently of the main stem of mammalian evolution修饰的是the opposite 还是the original point？

我感觉是修饰the original point的，那么independent from就成了表达两者全不相干。还是：

A independent of B ：A、B两者全不相干？independent from+来源？

（2）but still to have descended from a common ancestor.与谁平行，主谓省略的是什么？
