1. Fewer than half of the jobs in the United States conform even loosely to the standard forty-hour, nine-to-five weekday schedule, according to demographic experts. This is largely due to the rapid increase in the number of service firms and in the proportion of the United States labor force these firms employ, the experts say.

Which of the following, if true, best helps to explain how the growth of the service sector has had the effect noted above?

A. In order to supplement their incomes, a small percentage of workers in other sectors of the economy take service-sector jobs as sell.

B. New service-sector firms have arisen to fill the need for day care for children, a need that was created by the increasing number of families in which both parents are emplyed.

C.More part-time than full-time jobs have been created through the application of new technologies to traditional occupations.

D. Manufacturing enterprises and other nonservice firms often operate twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

E. The largest and fastest-growing segment of the service sector caters to leisure activities pursued outside the standard nine-to-five weekday schedule.

2.Studies have shown that people who rarely take antibiotics, which are antibacterial drugs, have stronger immune systems than do people who take antibiotics frequently. Yet there is no evidence that taking antibiotics weakens the immune system.

Which of the following, if true, best reconciles the apparent discrepancy in the information above?

A. People who have strong immune systems seldom get the kinds of infections for which people normally take antibiotics.

B. People who have strong immune systems are seldom aware that their immune systems are unusually strong.

C. People who have weak immune systems have great difficulty recovering from bacterial infections if they do not take antibiotics.

D. Some people take antibiotics even though the antibiotics cause a variety of side effects.

E. Some people take antibiotics frequently because their doctors prescibe antibiotics for viral infections as well as for bacterial infections.

In order to supplement their incomes, a small percentage of workers in other sectors of the economy take service-sector jobs as sell.--无关。

B. New service-sector firms have arisen to fill the need for day care for children, a need that was created by the increasing number of families in which both parents are emplyed.-

C.More part-time than full-time jobs have been created through the application of new technologies to traditional occupations.---这个选项如果要正确的话,必须有个假设就是parttime payment>fulltime, 但是文中并没有提到阿。

D. Manufacturing enterprises and other nonservice firms often operate twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.--无关

People who have strong immune systems ,也提到了people normally take antibiotics.
