One way to judge the performance of a company is to compare it with other companies. This technique, commonly called “benchmarking,” permits the manager of a company to discover better industrial practices and can provide a justification for the adoption of the good practices.

题目的意思是说以下哪个选项可以成为一个合理的理由用来解释一种现象，这个现象是一个公司主要是用和它没有竞争关系的公司的标准来衡量自己的表现，而不是以竞争对手的表现来衡量。（为了理解的方便，我没有完全按原文直译，但是应该就是表达的这个意思） 实际上是问：有什么理由说明应该拿没有竞争关系的公司来对比呢？加上了EXCEPT之后就是说：哪个选项不能给公司的这样一种行为提供充分的理由。

这道题的问法的确复杂。LZ注红色的部分其实就是non-competitors and competitors.我起初把company当公司，competitor当人，所以搞糊涂了。再加上rather than，EXCEPT，又转了两道弯。。。。还是要多做练习。
