以下是引用MissSweety在2008-2-28 8:20:00的发言: I don't recommend you to take operations research, my friends in Stanford, master in management sciences and engineering program, and Columbia: operations research and industrial engineering, they graduate this year, the friend in Stanford got a offer with very low salary, and the other one from Columbia still hunting job now, although the job market is low currently, even the market is high, the salary for this major still mnot good compare to Financial Engineering. Thanks for your reply first, yes, you are right, Financial engineer are more popular and valuable than MMS, but the point is ,there are no part time course avaliable in this country, lots universities in UK provide this course, but i don't want to give up the achievement i have in ireland. There is a classmate of mine who joined Morganstanley in 2006 in London said, some of his colleagues wish to go to do one year financial mathematcis in Imperial college as well, he is a IT analyst. The master of management science course structure are as below:
Programme StructureThe Master of Management Science is offered as a one-year full-time programme or on a two-year part-time basis. You will be assessed by examination and continuous assessment. To graduate, you must complete the core modules and produce a dissertation. The dissertation involves full-time work on a real management problem, generally with an Irish company. It should be mathematically complex with a computer-programming element. CurriculumThere are eight specialist core modules in the programme: - Quantitative Methods
- Decision Science and Systems Analysis
- Software and Numerical Applications
- Applied Probability and Statistics
- Networks and Algorithms
- Decision Support Systems
- Simulation Modelling and Analysis
- Applied Management Science
A number of these modules are shared with the MSc in Quantitative Finance programme. Also as the course introduction said as below: Where can I go after MMS?The Master of Management Science programme can lead to careers in software design, management consultancy, systems analysis, financial analysis, operations research, information technology and logistics management. Because of the strong mathematical focus of the course, many graduates move into careers in investment banking. Our graduates are employed in companies such as: - IBM
- Deloitte Consulting
- Merck Sharp and Dohme
- Intel
- Dell
- Revenue Commissioners
- AIB
- J.P. Morgan
- Goldman Sachs
The major reason i have chosen the MMS,because the text above highlighted in red, if choose other maters, only MIS and master in finance in TCD,seems ok. thanks |
