A really quick Ding from Emory

I submitted my application on Feb.1st, due to many problems on Emory's side, I finally received an email last Thursday saying that my application is complete. This morning I checked the status on O.P.U.S. , I got dinged. That is a really quick death I guess. I have to say Emory adcom is very smart, did they somehow sense that I am using them as a backup, I told the interviewed very candidly that I am also applying to Vandy and WUSTL. Still I am feeling bad, I feel myself as a pretty strong candidate with high GMAT, GPA and many years of WE in the U.S. and China. Sigh. Right now I am thinking what to do to make myself feel better :-((

Well, now I feel that my strategy was wrong from the beginning. I thought that by sacrificing the ranking, I am more likely to get scholarships. But in reality, all the safe schools I applied to might view me as using them as backup.

feel better...you should think, afterall, it is only your backup school

btw, while telling them you applied to the other two schools, did you mention something along the lines of "emory is my number one choice"...

or you simply made them feel that emory is your backup...

what did you say to them?

I can't remember exactly what I said, I just remember saying that Emory is a great choice for me because the opportunities Atlanta could offer after graduation, I even did research and use facts to back up my statement. But obviously Libby didn't buy it. Because I live in Nashvill, they might just assume Vandy would accept me and I will choose to stay in Nashville.

also, apologies in advance for my poor geographic knowledge...but isnt vandy close to emory..location wise? how long do you have to travel from one to the other...

Yes, I am from Shanghai originally. Atlanta is about 250 miles southeast of Nashville. Quite frankly Nashville is a much nicer city to live in than Atlanta. Not as much poverty and pain in the butt traffic, more potential growth opportunity yet still has all the city life Atlanta could offer.

Don't let them discourage you. You will find some place better than just a backup.

By the way, I got an offer from WUSTL last year, and am not planning to go there, so there will be at least one more seat available.
