Morning everyone,

My question is regarding Ross Essay Q3

Q3.If you were not pursuing the career goals you described in Question 1, what profession would you pursue instead? (For example, teacher, musician, athlete, architect, etc.) How will this alternate interest contribute to your effectiveness in solving multidisciplinary problems?

Q1. Briefly describe your short-term and long-term career goals. Why is an MBA the best choice at this point in your career? What and/or who influenced your decision to apply to Ross?

Some engineer friends would prefer as Investment banker or create their own business, etc. While my major in uni is business and that is what I am currently doing. So if I choose to be a musician or a teacher, how to link this simple profession to a more comprehensive level defined as solving multidisciplinary problems?

Check with google to know the process of solving "multidisciplinary problems". also check Ross' MAP.
They want to know another side of your personality can be fit into Ross' class. So it is not your other profession, it is your personal characterics that let your choose the othe profession.

musician - play in conert with others? - good team player/ willing to make contributions to team & like to work with other in and after class (because you have to pratice)/
                 play according to "plan"/ theme - good team player /knowing your own duty.
                     have to practice after class - likely do your own home work
                 obey director - good observer (keenly aware the enviroment change)
                 Persue the perfection - also want the best outcome.
                     Want to play on stage - not shy and willing to discuss with others.

Of course, there are a lot characterics for teachers: patients, interest to new ideas, inspiration, focus, willing to communicate with everyone, commitement, dedication, care for others, persue the best (you don't want to be embrassed by students); good observer;

Great comment, how about a pianist then? A profession similar to musician but not completely equal to.

Thanks Dickson, interview chances depend on the whole package, not essays only. Feel free to express your ideas, I believe they are helpful to others like me.

Hi David, I don't think schools will issue out any invitations during winter break, especially today - X'mas day. Please wait patiently and allow them to rest a bit. Wish to hear your good news soon after the holiday.

a pianist - play solo but can fit with others such as singer, dancer, or orchestra, etc;
play solo - self-motivated;
a mutli-talented & flexible person (Beside your engineer backgroung, business ambition)
Just pick two or three your personal traits complement to the rest of essay.

我没申Ross，不过曾经有人问过我Ross 的essay，当时看了一下，给我印象相当深

不同MBA 项目差别很大，虽然多数都有一套核心价值，以及都强调差异性

但有的学校的核心价值要求相当宽泛，而有的学校追求的特定品质，必须通过特定经历才能得到

Ross，是我所看到学校中，入口最窄的，对特定特质要求最严肃的

Ross 特别强调，申请人需要表现五方面特质，其中四方面明确指出需要在essay 中反映

两篇long essay ，很明显分别对应leadership 和career goal 两项，

那么还剩两项 teamwork 和 Ross style，或者需要夹在long essay 中表现，或者需要单独的short essay表述

剩下两篇short essay，我觉得命题设计得非常巧妙，因为可以表现四个要求中的任意一项，但又不能写太多

首先，可以补漏，比如有的人如果现在从事的行业，根本不能表现 teamwork 或 Ross style，那么他很容易在short essay 里补充

反之，如果申请人已经在long essay 里把四方面全涵盖了，那么他可以用short essay 来突出其中某项优势，甚至表现其他方面的特质来赚加分

然而，两个短essay 又一攻一守，一个经历一个设想，和long essay 相对应，来从侧面辅助判断申请人的maturity 和 rationale，

以免申请人对前面两个命题回答太不实际，或者故意迎合评判，，，应该说，虽然灵活，但绝对不好写

老实说，我挺欣赏Ross 的命题的，

具体涉及到essay 3，我想前面两位分析的已经相当精辟了，确实，一方面不能因为改变career goal 而改变你是谁，另一方面要表现你有相当的灵活度和韧性，以展现你对你career goal 的理解是成熟，立体的，而不是冲动、片面的

我只想多罗嗦一点，就是 Ross 的essay 整体性相当强，而short essay 绝对是应该辅助补充long essay 的，所以选角度应该先从你的long essay 上看起
