Furthermore, as the corporation’s unbroken six-year record of growth will show, my conduct of my official duties as chairman has only helped enhance the success of the corporation, and so benefited every stockholder.
Which of the following can be properly inferred from the excerpt?
(A) The chairman believes that all those who have demanded his resignation are motivated by desire to control the corporation for their own purposes.
(B) Any misdeeds that the chairman may have committed were motivated by his desire to enhance the success of the corporation.
(C) The chairman is innocent of any criminal offense.
(D) The corporation has expanded steadily over the past six years.
(E) Any legal proceedings against the chairman have resulted in his acquittal.

The answer is D. Why not B? The question asks 'What can be properly inferred from the excerpt', however D is stated in the excerpt, it is not inferred from the excerpt.

2. In the years since the city of London imposed strict air-pollution regulations on local industry, the number of bird species seen in and around London has increased dramatically. Similar air-pollution rules should be imposed in other major cities.
Each of the following is an assumption made in the argument above EXCEPT:
(A) In most major cities, air-pollution problems are caused almost entirely by local industry.
(B) Air-pollution regulations on industry have a significant impact on the quality of the air.
(C) The air-pollution problems of other major cities are basically similar to those once suffered by London.
(D) An increase in the number of bird species in and around a city is desirable.
(E) The increased sightings of bird species in and around London reflect an actual increase in the number of species in the area.

The answer is A. From my point of view, A is a sound assumption. If in most major cities, air-pollution problems are caused almost entirely by local industry, then imposing similar air-pollution regulations on local industry in other major cities will get similar result. Can someone help me to clarify my question? Thanks a lot!

题2：A is not related to the reasoning of the argument.

我帮你讲第2个为什么是a,选项说的是几乎所有的空气污染都是由地方的工业造成的，没错吧，哈哈，那么你再大的城市实施空气污染的法规当然没有用了，因为大城市的空气就根本没有污染，a little tricky ，哈哈。好好谢谢我吧，你一点也不蠢，就是比较粗心。

你的第一题对于B有疑问是因为这句话的理解:Furthermore, as the corporation’s unbroken six-year record of growth will show, my conduct of my official duties as chairman has only helped enhance the success of the corporation, and so benefited every stockholder. 这句话是说,因为公司业务在这六年中有增长,所以, 这个人认为他的工作对公司的成功是有帮助的,并且每个股东都因此受益.可是B中提到的misdeed, 在前文中作者只是提到有人对他的工作提出控诉,可是他没有任何一个地方承认自己有misdeed. 所以B中的misdeed commited不正确. 而D中的expand正是growth 的infer.

第二题的A没有错,尽管我在做这道题的时候跟你错的一样,都对A有疑问. 现在明白了. 原文的逻辑是:一个regulation 对于一个城市的local industry有用,就推的对其他的大部分城市都有用, 可是A中陈述的逻辑是几乎所有的城市污染都要归因于local industry, 偏离了原文的逻辑关系.

明白了吗?

更糊涂了。most major cities 不是包括 other major cities 吗？

主要就是取非，
1，显然就是D.
2，取非后，A不绝对，且有entirely绝对词。
