What is one of your family's important traditions?

In my hometown, there are myriad of festivals, such as the Spring Festival, the Mid-autumn Festival, and so on. And all of these festivals have their traditions. As far as I am concerned, one of my family's important traditions is the family reunion on the Mid-autumn Day.

Mid-autumn Day is one of the most significant festivals in China. It is usually celebrated on the fifteenth of the eighth moon. That is around the autumn equinox. On that day, all of us will gather around a big table under the big tree in our back yard. No matter how far the family member is away from our home, he or she will try his or her best to come back home in order to involve in this family reunion. Then we will have dinner contains lots of delicious food, such as salty duck, roast chicken, and the main dish is the moon cake. Moon cake is somewhat looked like a pie in western country, but it is smaller in size, and in side it we can put anything we want, for example, core of egg, nuts, and so forth. We will be enjoying the balmy food as well as the full silver moon in the sky.

This tradition is important for my family mainly for two reasons. First my family is a big family, for there are my parents, four sisters and two brothers of mine, their spouses and their children. Thus, we really have a large family tree. And we do not work in the same place, for instance, I work as a designer in Yang Zhou, while my eldest sister work in Beijing, and my youngest brother work in Shanghai. So the family reunion is the best solution for us, because we cannot get in touch with each other frequently. Second, it improves the relationship between family members. In our own culture the round shape of moon cake and the full silver moon represent the love from family. On that day we chat with each other, eating delicious food, and appreciating the full moon, which gives us the sense that our family is our harbor, the best place in the world.

In conclusion, the family reunion on the Mid-autumn Festival has great importance for all our family members, and it is the most important tradition in my family.
