Here is my 2 cents.
Assumption is the critical part in GMAT CS. Besides pure assumption questiones, many weaken questiones actually test your ability to find the hidden assumption in the argument. The right answers always attack the hidden assumptions and make the conclusion no longer hold.
Basically, assumption bridges the gap between an argument's evidence and conclusion. It is a piece of support that isn't explicitly stated but is required for the conclusion to remain valid. Sometimes it is easy to see the assumption once you know the coclusion and evidence in the argument. But sometimes things are not that simple.
The most common way to deal with assumption question is the "Denial Test". Simply deny or negate the statement and see if the argument falls apart. If it does, that choice is a necessary assumption. If, on the other hand, the argument is unaffected, the choice is wrong.
These are just some basic rules to deal with assumption question. More practices are always necessary, and more important is that apply these rules to your practices, and use your practice to verify these rules.
Hope this help.
