Darden - Chinese Students & Alumni Taking Questions

A little background:

Graduated from Darden this May, I had an engineering background in a Chinese state-owned company.  I spent my 04 summer in Corp Finance Program within a leading Science Company in US and returned there for full time.

First, Congratulations on your graduation and success in landing a job!

I just knew I am in for Darden MBA class 2008. I am also with engineering background (civil engineering). Could you give me your insight of job placement info for chinese students in the Darden school? I know some of them return to China in some consulting firms, how is the reputation of Darden in China?

I got the interview invitation for adcom interview on Dec 7, can you share the interview experience? Esp, the style of the adcom interview and the frequent asked questions?

By the way, I also received the invitation for reception in Beijing on Dec 7, but since  I am not in beijing, it is difficult to ask one more day off from my Boss. Do you think it is a must for me to join the reception to increase the possibility to be admitted?

Labrador, the 05 placement is not bad.  I am working for a Fortune 500’s finance program and my offer is the second worst in terms of $ and position.  For 04, there are around 3 or 4 SYs still searching so far.  Can not talk too detail… Have to be honest, case study is tough at Darden only in first year, but never heard any Chinese quit.

kane1979, for admission, I am not an expert (three yrs ago).  But I guess you will likely interview with alumni in China.  My takeaway about B-school interview is that you should at least TRY to control the interview directions, show your strong sides instead of be defensive.  Reception can give you more info but do not think the admitted odds will increase.

Really? you mean there are 3 to 4 students still looking for jobs 1.5 years after graduation from Darden? sounds not very good.

You misunderstood it.

It means 3 to 4 second year current students are looking for jobs.  The other 8 Chinese second year students already finished job searching.
