想请教大家一道语法题，谢谢啦

31. Rising inventories, when unaccompanied correspondingly by increases in sales, can lead to production cutbacks that would hamper economic growth.
(A) when unaccompanied correspondingly by increases in sales, can lead【修饰】
(B) when not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, possibly leads【主谓不一致】
(C) when they were unaccompanied by corresponding sales increases, can lead【冗杂】
(D) if not accompanied by correspondingly increased sales, possibly leads【主谓不一致】
(E) if not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, can lead

【关于这道题，我想问下a和d是主谓一致的错误吗？那rising inventories的主语就是inventories？不是rising？rising理解为形容词是这样吗？那为什么“protecting animals is our duty的主语就是单数，主语是protecting了呢？困惑了好久谢过大家了】

d最重要的问题是用possibly 替换了can。can lead to的can语义是有时候竟然也可能怎样的意思，比possible多了一些表达不了的意义。或者说记住a选项的情态动词不能随意被替换。

至于主谓一致这个。并不是用rising 或者protecting来判断单数还是复数，应该用语义判断，比如rising inventories is our task.也可以，the protected animals are died at the end 也没问题。
看语义决定应该谁做主语，如果明显不会有歧义，gmat就不认为有错。

Rising inventories表達上升中的存貨, 所以主詞是複數存貨飛動名詞
(GMAT句子中直接上升下降這種Ving+N要看後面N單複數, 因此以下OV這題答案亦不能選B)
[ ] of data-processing operations at many financial institutions has created a growing opportunity for independent companies to provide these services more efficiently and at lower cost．
(A) The rising of costs
(B) Rising costs
(C) The rising cost

ACE比刪A
語意讀起來corresponding應該是修飾後面increases合理而非前面V

CE比刪C
因為偏好N介N (increases in sales) 大於NN (sales increases)
且偏好消滅代名詞be動詞
此外if not...亦是GMAT常見句型

選E

我上面打错了，好像做法跟你的差不多主谓一致删除了bd，然后感觉rising是个形容词，主语是复数，今天早上看到一句protecting animals is。。。。。我就凌乱了，原来是就像楼上大神和你这样根据句意判断单复数呀，谢谢啦超级感谢
