E的意思是，在化石树存活的年代发生的霜冻，并不会在树上造成霜冻轮。
原文的argument指的是因为化石树上无霜冻轮，所以那个年代没霜冻。而原文第一句就说明霜冻会造成霜冻轮，E与其矛盾，自然不构成前提假设。
答案应该是C。
