To put it very simply, a research proposal looks like the first half of a journal paper, in which you would demonstrate your intended topical research and propose a model or a set of hypotheses to be tested.
In your introduction and literature review, describe what is the research question you want to address, why it is important, what prior work has been done so far, how the prior research findings are gonna relate to your research question, model and hypotheses.
In the method part, describe in detail the methodology, model and hypotheses of your proposed study. You should also at least include some general questions like how you would operationalize your variables and measures; how you would collect data, how you would analyze your results and how you would use the data to test your hypotheses.
In the discussion part, you can briefly sum up the importance of your proposed study, its possible contribution to current studies of your topic, some limitations as well as future directions for the research.
