Often patients with ankle fractures that are stable, and thus do not require surgery, are given follow-up x-rays because their orthopedists are concerned about possibly having misjudged the stability of the fracture. When a number of follow-up x-rays were reviewed, however, all the fractures that had initially been judged stable were found to have healed correctly. Therefore, it is a waste of money to order follow-up x-rays of ankle fracture initially judged stable.

Which of the following, if true, most strengthens the argument?

GWD-24-Q22

Often patients with ankle fractures that are stable, and thus do not

require surgery, are given follow-up x-rays because their orthopedists

are concerned about possibly having misjudged the stability of the frac-

ture. When a number of follow-up x-rays were reviewed, however, all

the fractures that had initially been judged stable were found to have

healed correctly. Therefore, it is a waste of money to order follow-up

x-rays of ankle fracture initially judged stable.

Which of the following, if true, most strengthens the argument?

A.     Doctors who are general practitioners rather than orthopedists are

less likely than orthopedists to judge the stability of an ankle frac-

ture correctly.

B.     Many ankle injuries for which an initial x-ray is ordered are revealed

by the x-ray not to involve any fracture of the ankle.

C.     X-rays of patients of many different orthopedists working in several

hospitals were reviewed.

D.     The healing of ankle fractures that have been surgically repaired is

always checked by means of a follow-up x-ray.

E.      Orthopedists routinely order follow-up x-rays for fractures of bone

other than ankle bones

Often patients with ankle fractures that are stable, and thus do not

require surgery, are given follow-up x-rays because their orthopedists

are concerned about possibly having misjudged the stability of the frac-

ture.

Often patients with ankle fractures that are stable, are given follow-up x-rays,and thus do not require surgery,之所以用插入的形式说and thus do not require surgery,是因为,are given follow up xrays后面跟了个because.....,你看because后面还有那么多的废话,等这些话说完了再说 and thus do not require surgery就更没人看得懂了......

 GWD-7-Q27:

A
significant number of complex repair jobs carried out by Ace Repairs have to be
reworked under the company’s warranty.
The reworked jobs are invariably satisfactory.  When initial repairs are inadequate,
therefore, it is not because the mechanics lack competence; rather, there is
clearly a level of focused concentration that complex repairs require that is
elicited more reliably by rework jobs than by first-time jobs.

The
argument above assumes which of the following?

  1. There is no
systematic difference in membership between the group of mechanics who do
first-time jobs and the group of those who do rework jobs.
  2. There is no
company that successfully competes with Ace Repairs for complex repair
         jobs.
  3. Ace Repairs’
warranty is good on first-time jobs but does not cover rework jobs.
  4. Ace Repairs does
not in any way penalize mechanics who have worked on complex repair jobs
that later had to be reworked.
  5. There is no
category of repair jobs in which Ace Repairs invariably carries out
         first-time jobs satisfactorily.
