A demonstrates that the will to live through the religious holidays really make these elderly people less likely to die. It simply uses a bigger time frame for comparison.

For example: People who study GMAT have better peformance review than others in the same department. I conclude that GMAT makes people work smarter and harder. Now evidence say that the same group of GMAT people have better review than all others in the same company (industry, country, continent, etc.). That strengthens the argument.

I think A is so strong that it can be a typical assumption.
eg.
80% people hurt in accident were not wearing safety belt => safety belt makes people safe.
premise:at least 20% people in the survey were wearing safety belt.
