Musicologists therefore hypothesize that the diatonic musical scale was developed and used thousands of years before it was adopted by Western musicians.

OG的解释：This also weakens the hypothesis, because it states that there is no known evidence of a certain type that would support the hypothesis.实在看不明白啊，到底是为什么就会削弱结论了呢？我个人的理解是这个是不相关选项，因为有没有比笛子更早发掘出的带有全音阶的乐器都对结论没有影响。

我的理解是：这个题目最后假设全音阶在被西方音乐家采用前已经发展了很长时间了（数千年）。而B选项的意思虽然不完全，但是暗示了全音阶的发展时间有限，至多也就是到Neanderthal那个时期（由于没有证据证明在此时期之前有全音阶）。

B取否就是说有一种用diatonic scale的musical instrument比Neanderthal campsite的还早，这等于说diatonic scale是在更早的时候出现的。这就更加支持了the diatonic musical scale比Western musical instruments早呗。所以B是对hypothesize的削弱。

但是这个跟结论“diatonic musical scale was developed and used thousands of years before it was adopted by Western musicians”似乎并没有关系啊？

你说得挺有道理的，这个weaken的效力感觉十分微弱

我想是这么理解的（其实我并不喜欢这种解释）：因为人们发现了一个以前的全音阶乐器，所以人们假设全音阶在被西方采用前已经发展了很长了时间。但是如果并有证据支持全音阶在更早的时间出现过，那么全音阶可能就不像人们想象的那样发展了很长时间。很Ugly，但我估计这是OG想表示的意思。

不管是不是weaken的弱，总之这个不是正确答案。
答案要Strengthen

有一点不一样的理解... 在这个问题中的hypothesis是全音阶应该在被西方音乐广泛应用之前很久就已经出现了但是现在科学家们只发现了可以演奏部分音阶的fluent fragment 如果想要证明题中的假设至少要找出全音阶演奏乐器出现的证据 B中否定了这个证据的存在性因为没有能够演奏全音阶的更早阶段的乐器出现所以这个argument是在一定程度上被削弱了..
