1. 句子作用题。Delta products,inc., has recently switched at least partly from older technologies using fossil fuels to new technologies powered by electricity. The question has been raised whether it can be concluded that for a given level of output, Delta's operation causes less fossil fuel to be consumed than it did formerly. The answer, clearly, is yes, because the amount of fossil fuel used to generate the electricity needed to power the new technologies is less than the amount needed to power the older technologies, provided that the level of output is held constant.
A。The first identifies the context of the conclusion of the argument; the second provides support for that conclusion. E. Each provides support for conclusion of the argument.
2. 假设题 Press Secretary: Our critics assert that the President's recent highway project cancellations demonstrate a vindictive desire to punish legislative districts controlled by opposition parties. They offer as evidence the fact that 92percent of the projects canceled were in such districts. However, all of the canceled projects had been identified as inefficient in a report written by respected nonpartisan auditors. So the President's choice was obviously motivated by sound budgetary policy, not partisan politics.
Which of the following is an assumption on which the press secretary's argument depends?
正解: The scheduled highway projects identified as wasteful in the report were not mostly projects in districts controlled by the President's party.

3. 评价题 The FMD, foot and mouth disease is caused by a virus transmitted to humans by deer ticks. Generally, deer ticks pick up the virus while in the larval stage by feeding on infected black mice. However, certain other species on which the larvae feed do not harbor the virus. If the population of these other species were increased, more of the larvae would be feeding on uninfected hosts, so the number of ticks acquiring the virus would likely decline.
正解 Whether the deer tick population's size is currently limited by the capability of animals for the tick's larval stage to feed on

4. 加强题 Mayor Centralia's critics complain about the jobs that were lost in the city under Centralia's leadership. But the fact is that not only were more jobs created than were eliminated, but the average pay for these new jobs has been higher than the average pay for jobs citywide every year after Centralia took office. Therefore, there can be no doubt that throughout Centralia's tenure the average paycheck in this city has been getting steadily bigger.
正解 The average pay for jobs eliminated in the city during Mayor Centralia's tenure has been roughly equal every year to the average pay for jobs citywide.
LZ。。还是没有理解逻辑关系……
5.一道有点小陷阱的加强题 An unexpected increase in the production of elephant ivory artifacts on the Nigerian coast of North Africa occurred in the eleventh century. Historians clarify this increase as the consequence of an area opening up as a new source of ivory and argue on this basis that the important medieval trade between North Africa and West Africa began at this period.
Each of the following, if true, provides some support for the historians' account described above EXCEPT? A. In West Africa gold coins from Nigerian North Africa have been found at a tenth- century but at no earlier sites. D. Documents from Nigerian Europe and North Africa that date back earlier than the eleventh century show knowledge of West African animals. 答案是D。。可是 lz反而觉得。。D可以加强结论,所以D不应该被排除,也就是说。。答案不应该是D。。。混乱了……
LZ。。你的第一问题。。的答案好像不应该是E吧。。。我觉得应该是A的反一反啊。。即 The first provides support for the conclusion; the second identifies the content of the conclusion of the argument;

不好意思~我今天也做到这题,搜到这个帖子,这道题原体还有一个B选项,是说“the many surviving letters of pre-eleventh-century north african merchant include no mention of business transactions involving east africa",个人觉得这个条件比D选项更不靠谱啊。就D选项来说,北非对西非动物的了解可以在侧面反映这两个地区的交流,起码是起到”support"效果的,如果说无关的话,那么C选项“excavations in west africa reveal a eleventh-century change in architectural style to reflect north african patterns"也应该说是无关了吧?

A。The first identifies the context of the conclusion of the argument; the second provides support for that conclusion. E. Each provides support for conclusion of the argument.
答案选E。。可是A为什么错呢。。LZ觉得conclusion应该是“fuel会消耗得更少”,工厂换了技术这应该是一个背景吧……Whenever you start a CR question, you need to “CAP” the arg, that is, find the C, the A, and the P. Conclusion: Delta’s operations DOES cause less fuel now than it did in the past. Once you find the conclusion, you need to ask yourself “why”. The answer to the “why” is your premise: Premise: (1) The switched from fossil fuels to something else (2) The amount of fuel needed is less now than it used to be. I see why you picked A, because the first (switched from fossil’s to others) seems to be setting up the “framework” for the conclusion. But I think the reason you are wrong is because you don’t fully understand the word “context”. If you provide a context, you are setting up a idea or a world... in this world, we have dinosaurs... thus, humans couldn’t be around or else the dinosaurs would eat us. That is a context (the world we live in) and the conclusion (humans cannot exist). In this case, our conclusion is that we will be more energy efficient. Why are we more energy efficient? There are two reasons why we are more efficient: 1) we have new tech that uses electricity. That alone proves we use less fossil fuel. but also 2) tells us that we need less fuel to make that electricity. I understand why A sounds good... so you want to figure out -- which one is better. Does #1 really setup a context (we switched & its more fuel efficient) or does it provide two parts of an argument? I’ll say that it provides 2 parts of an argument.
