Topic: All school teachers should be required to attend some courses every five years to update their knowledge.

At present, the speed of knowledge update is faster than ever due to the rapid development of technology. Clearly, merely attending some courses every five years is not enough for teachers to be efficient in teaching in modern classrom.

For one thing, with the widespread of Internet, students are no longer passive information receiver as in the past.  Rather, they are capable of using online learning resources to dig deep in the topics that they are interested in. For instances, in 2013 TED conference, an world-class knowledge sharing conference, three 15-year-olds showed that they were able to conduct researches on topics that they fastinated in at professional level. I couldn't imagine that their teachers would be qualified to teach these students if they only updated his/her knowledge by participating some courses every five years.

Second, taking courses might not be the most efficient approach of learning nowadays. There're so many alternatives that a teacher can choose, such as watching online open courses everyday during the commute time. A lot of recordings ofopen courses by professors from prestige universities like Yale University are available online these days. Since these open courses are updated on daily basis, a teacher can ensure that he/she is learning the most recent scientifically-proven knowledge. Another approach is to have seminasr with teachers in other schools or areas to exchange ideas and information. By doing so, they can share not only the new information, but also the best practice of refreshing their knowledge.

It's impossible to overstate the importance of the role that teachers take in our education, and it's necessary for them to ensure the effectiveness of their knowledge. Admittedly, by compulsively requiring teachers to take certain courses, we can ensure that they take efforts to upgrade their knowledge system. But these efforts are simply not sufficient to make them effective enough to be a good teacher in today's circumstances.

In conclusion, technology has shaped the landscape of our classroom. As a consequence, attending some courses is far from enough to prepare the teachers for students that are active online learners.

Which do you prefer, to buy new technological devices immediately after they become available or to wait until many people have adopted(=accepted and started to use) them?

Admittedly, buying newly released high-tech devices give people certain identity of being young, cool, wealthy - you name it. However, in essence, the purpose of buying new technological inventions is making our life easier. Personally, I prefer to perchase technological products after they become popular for the following three reasons.

For one thing, it is a waste of time to try different new devices that haven't been tested by a large group customers yet. Among the numerous new technological products being released in 2012, according to one authority on technological development, about 40% of them ended up in failure. For people like me who have no interest in the new technology itself, perchasing a variety of new devices is merely a waste of time without fun. I would rather spend the time in more meaningful items - volunteering, reading, travelling, etc.

What's more, buying newly released digital devices will increase our financial burden. Digital devices are usually relatively more expensive when they initially go to maket. For instance, the price of iPhone 4 when it was firstly released is three times the price when it became universal. Especially for young people, who are the major customers, buying these newly released products will in no doubt add unnecessary financial burden to them. In many cases, they will have to work extra hours or even ask for money from their parents in order to buy these new products.

Meanwhile, popular products are always accompanied by better customer supporst. Even though the product itself is exellent, one of the common complains about new product is the insufficient after-sales support. The reason is that companies generally intend to invest more on the customer supports of the popular products, ones that are more profitable and have bigger customer base.

In conclusion, I like to buy technological devices when they become well-adopted by the public. In doing so, I can save more time and money while receiving better customer support.
