请教一道数学题

在钱永强的数学题目里有一道很简单,但是我却和他的理解不一样,希望有朋友们能帮我解答一下:

Pam and Ed are in a line to purchase tickets. How many people are in the line?

1.There are 20 people behind Pam and 20 people in front of Ed.

2.There are 5 people between Pam and Ed.

钱老师给的答案是E.但是我觉得1+2可以回答问题....

i did not watch the book you mentioned,but i think there are two answers according to 1 and 2.because first you shoud know the order between Pam and Ed.

if Pam in front of Ed,the answer is 35,if Ed in front of Pam ,the answer is 42.

i think so~~
