The Bauer Program is on par with many other top programs in terms of faculty research, and its graduates have been placed at excellent research schools. For the marketing area, it receives 60/70 applications per year and admit about three of them. Thus, it is highly competitive, with a very low acceptance rate. By the way, I am not in this program but just have the "inside" info. As for Houston, it is a top four research university in Texas, the other three being Texas-Austin, TAMU, and Rice. Ignore the school's undergraduate ranking on USNEWS as it is irrelevant in your case.
Are you saying that your undergrad degree was in the humanities, for instance, foreign languages, history, or philosophy? This alone should be a compelling reason for you to rethink where to apply. Also, industry experience is not research although it may be considered.
Do not take what American profs say too seriously. They always buck up students, and some of them (esp. adjunct faculty, who have no PhDs) do not know a thing about PhD programs. |
