网申系统的普及，始于2006-07年左右。以往美国学校每年都会雇佣大量的人力，处理庞大的申请者纸质材料。每一位申请者，材料都有厚厚的一摞，申请表格、推荐信、PS、CV、财产证明等等，寄送的费用也非常贵。网络技术的发展，很多学校开始引进网申系统。
1、美国大学申请的网申系统—&mdashCommon Application;
美国大学网申Common Application是美国大学本科入学网上申请的一站式网站，适用于包括哈佛，耶鲁，普林斯顿等名校在内的400多所美国大学。该网申系统帮助申请人一次性地进行原本繁琐的申请流程(如提交高中成绩单，推荐信以及essay等)。
2012年秋季入学使用美国大学网申Common App的美国456所大学早在2011年8月1日就开始接受申请。Common App网申系统在2010-2011申请季再次刷新纪录，共有57.8万人使用该系统，同比增长18%;总共完成240万份申请，同比增长24%;540 万份学校表格提交，同比增长100%。
2、美国大学申请的网申系统 ——Aplyyourself
由于研究生专业多，且不同学校的专业设置也不相同，所以研究生申请的网申系统也比本科的要复杂。研究生申请的网申系统的主要有：applyyourself、embark、applyweb、applytexas、学校自己的网申系统五种。
Aplyyourself是目前最常用的美国大学的网申系统，几乎有一多半的学校都是使用的这个系统。这是一套最好的网申系统，界面简单明了，任何填错填漏的信息只要check一下就有详细的定位链接提示;支持文件的上传(如CV、PS、成绩单等)会自动转换成PDF格式(可预览结果);推荐信这一块做的最好，除了填写推荐人信息稍显复杂之外，最大的优点是在submitted之前(也是online付申请费之前)就可以发出网推email到推荐人指定的信箱。

美国大学网申Common Application介绍
越来越多的学生留学美国采用网申的形式，越来越多的美国大学倾向于使用网申。美国大学网申Common Application(缩写Common App)是美国大学本科入学网上申请的一站式网站，适用于包括哈佛，耶鲁，普林斯顿等名校在内的400多所美国大学。该网申系统帮助申请人一次性地进行原本繁琐的申请流程(如提交高中成绩单，推荐信以及essay等)。
2012年秋季入学使用美国大学网申Common App的美国456所大学早在2011年8月1日就开始接受申请。Common App网申系统在2010-2011申请季再次刷新纪录，共有57.8万人使用该系统，同比增长18%;总共完成240万份申请，同比增长24%;540 万份学校表格提交，同比增长100%。截止2011年8月15日，已经有1796个申请人开始行动，而更有甚者，已经有3173份提交申请，同比增长 31%。所以，每个申请人需要尽早开始准备，文书写作和网申同步进行，保持一个良好的步调，保证申请工作的有效有序进行。
2011年开始，美国大学网申Common App系统也发生了一些变化。具体变化包括如下内容：
1、学校名单有了扩充，继去年哥伦比亚大学和密歇根大学加入Common App系统，今年有南加州大学和北卡大学入住，熟悉USC和UNC的申请人都应该清楚知道，这两个学校的essay 内容较多，写作更为复杂，采用通用系统后，能给申请人带来一定的便利。从而在今年新增 48 所采用通用系统后，美国大学也总共有 456 所大学采用通用系统进行申请。其中前20的名校中只有MIT 麻省理工在采用自己的系统，其他大学均一股脑采用通用系统。
2、美国大学网申Common App系统添加了“活动列表”重新排序功能，同时把以往的12个活动压缩成10个活动。
3、大essay的字数要求有变化，压缩到了500字以内。这对essay 的写作要求又进一步提高，字斟句酌是必须要处理的。
4、申请人可以通过智能手机来登录美国大学网申Common App系统查询状态。
5、新common美国网申系统在8月1日开放，在这之前，一般均在8月15 日开放。显而易见，国际学生的逐年增加，已经促使通用系统做出了一些适时的变化，以应对不断增长的学生数量。
建议做好充分准备的学生早早开始进行美国大学网申，尤其是那些已经具备了良好的英语标准化考试成绩的学生，比如托福、雅思、SAT或ACT都已经达到预期分数，在尽可能的情况下选择提前录取计划(EA或ED)，赶在11月1日前完成网申，如果没有做好十足的准备，标准化考试的时间与ED/EA要求的时间有矛盾，但是希望通过提前录取加大录取率，那么有一些提供ED二期的学校可以选择。在很多东西都不确定的同学则要好好备战RD(常规申请)，这也是多数人的选择，申请主要在于质量，这才是硬道理，质量制胜是本科名校申请的不变原则，所以需要淡定，一步一个脚印去准备就好。

解读美国研究生的五个网申系统
准备通过美国大学网申系统来申请美国研究生的人，应该在网申之前先对美国大学网申的系统有所了解，下面就把大家常见的美国大学网申系统做个介绍，美国留学网申的系统的主要有：applyyourself、embark、applyweb、applytexas、学校自己的网申系统这五种。
1.applyyourself 这是目前最常用的美国留学网申系统，几乎有一多半的学校都是使用的这个系统。可能是碰到的多、相对也比较熟悉的原因，这是一套最好的网申系统，界面简单明了，任何填错填漏的信息只要check一下就有详细的定位链接提示;支持文件的上传(如CV、PS、成绩单等)会自动转换成PDF格式(可预览结果);推荐信这一块做的最好，除了填写推荐人信息稍显复杂之外，最大的优点是在submitted之前(也是online付申请费之前)就可以发出网推email到推荐人指定的信箱(我没有见到有要求必须是。edu的推荐信箱)，而且可以很方便地进行修改、删除更换和重新发送网推email给推荐人。。 From 1point 3acres bbs
交费及submitted之前就可以搞定推荐信(网推)是这个系统最大的优点，建议凡是遇到applyyourself的全部采用网推，确实很方便很及时。你可以将所有的表格和推荐信处理完成再付费。要说缺点，可能有一个，就是上传文件时对文件的格式和尺寸有限制，特别是尺寸上很多要求不超过500K，这对于一些扫描图片的文件就不太容易做到(如T、G、成绩单等)，建议在上传时先自己转换成PDF格式的(不要用Word或其他臃肿的文件格式)，PDF处理后的尺寸比较小，一般都能够通过。。 From 1point 3acres bbs
2.embark 这个网申系统使用的不是太多，和applyyourself的功能十分接近，只是界面上有差别，对于推荐信的处理也几乎是完全一样的，而且推荐人信息的填写更简洁，可以参考上面的介绍。
3.applyweb 这个网申系统使用的也比较多，仅次于applyyourself，但相对来说，是一套不太友好的系统，界面采用翻页方式，访问速度慢(估计用这个的学校都是直接在系统里开帐号以SaaS模式租用的，因为submitted之后是由系统而非学校发来邮件的)，唯一的有优点是如果同时有几所这个系统的学校，就可以在统一界面下管理，不需要频繁地登陆帐号和密码。最大的缺点是对于推荐信的处理，必须submitted和付费之后才可以发网推推荐email，这样带来一定的不确定性，而且没法修改和调整。建议采用这个系统的使用纸推荐信(但有的学校不允许纸推如Gatech那就没办法了)。
4.applytexas 这是最差的美国留学网申系统，德州的公立大学都采用这个系统。没有check功能，submitted之前如果有错，系统并不明确指向，让你花很长时间去检查。最麻烦的是推荐信的处理，网申的话在付费提交之后，系统会通过电子邮件发一个UIN和NetID给你(据说这个过程可能最长达数周以上)，然后你凭这个登陆到另外一个网上推荐人系统处理推荐信。所以，遇到applytexas，还是做纸推吧。
5.学校自己的系统 有些是将applyyourself嵌入在自己学校的网站中，属于换汤不换药的性质，还有一些纯粹是自己开发的系统，因为太个性化了，这里也不一一介绍了。

2012网申心得 GRE和TOEFL送分经验
今天终于完成了21个学校的网申（等待TSE开放申请中~），心情大好，特此上来和大家分享下网申过程的心得。
网申系统
每个学校的网申系统都不同，但是有些学校的系统是基于相同的平台的。所以相同平台（如embark，applyyourself）的学校只要注册一次id就可以了，一个id可以通用的~
1.美国学校的网申系统：
embark：UC Davis，Syracuse U等。总体来说对这个系统不是很感冒，因为有很多地方设计的很不合理，比如syracuse U的网申系统中课程成绩一览只能填0-99的数字，我有门课100完全没法填，最好只好写了个A；另外有些填电话的非要写固定电话，我宿舍没有电话的只好写成家里的电话了。总之，感觉embark对所填内容的长度抠得很死，让申请人很是无语。
applyyourself：Georgetown U, U Pittsburgh,Purdue U,SUNY Albany,UNC,UVA等。个人对applyyourself的系统印象很好，每一步都设计得很人性化，instruction也很清楚，这些学校中对purdue U的系统最为欣赏，记得填GRE和TOEFL成绩时下面还有一项选择是否以前免费寄到过purdue，感觉这样会便于小米为申请者去match以前送到的成绩，既便于了学校也方便了申请人。
applyweb：Emory U，ISU。同用这个平台的还有Cornell，Umich，OSU等。这个系统的好处是登陆id后，这个id申请的所有学校都显示在一个页面上，可以进入任意一个学校进行网申，相当于这个平台把学校的申请联合在一起了，很是方便。但是点进去具体的申请表格都是学校自己设计的，什么样的都有，效果肯定不如applyyourself。
学校个性版网申系统：UMD,MSU,Vanderbilt U, U IOWA,ASU,UIC等。这类系统都不是基于共同平台的，每个学校有每个学校的特色。这些个性版系统总体上来说都还满意，没有出现像embark系统那样想填填不了的情形，但是除了UMD,UIC的系统外，其他学校的系统普遍偏简陋，但另一方面来说，也比较易于操作。
2.加拿大学校的网申系统：
加拿大每个学校的系统都不一样，所申的三所学校（UBC.QUEENS,UWO）的系统都非常好，UWO的略偏简陋，Queens的系统有点慢，UBC的除了每28天删除未提交申请外其他的我都非常喜欢。
3.欧洲大陆学校的网申：
所申欧洲大陆学校（TILBURG U, TINBERGEN, TSE（还未开放））的一般都称不上是系统，只能算是个申请表，Tilburg的稍微复杂点，先在网上填写一部分信息，然后学校会发链接到邮箱继续material的上传和填写reference。欧洲大陆的学校申请操作非常简单，而且也非常省钱。
GRE和TOEFL的送分
我是一边网申一边进行GT的送分，先把TOEFL的分都送了，因为TOEFL送分比较慢，然后每submit4-5个学校的网申，就送这4-5个学校的GRE成绩。网申和GT送分一共持续了3天，今天全部完成。这里需要提醒下的是有的学校要求填department code，有的不需要，如果不清楚的话一定要问小米，因为不按学校要求来的话很可能导致学校找不到GT成绩而使得自己重新寄GT，是件很麻烦的事。如果学校不要求department code，送TOEFL时department code一栏填写99，送GRE时填写5199或0000或者skip掉。
ps
刚写完的ps初稿有1700多字，实在是太罗嗦，于是我的ps写完后就交给修改机构改了下语言，自己觉得挺满意的，然后给了3个国外读书的同学看了看，都提了一些很不错的意见，能改的都改了，剩下的意见有些因为操作性不够或自己没那个时间和能力达到就54掉了，整体来说没有进行结构性的大改，因此心里也很虚，特别怕自己的ps在老外眼里很烂，最终稿的字数是970左右。
不同学校对ps的字数要求都不一样，有的500，有的600，有的又1000。对此我的做法是能54就54，只要能直接上传文档的我就懒得管学校的字数限制，如果网申的时候要复制粘贴的可能就会对字数进行下调整。自己的ps最后是哪一段都舍不得删，所以只好不管学校的要求了，但会不会有大影响我也不知道，这得看RP了。
最后UC Davis和MSU这两个学校比较BT，UC Davis要academic description，ps，history三个东东，MSU要statement of purpose，academic statement两个部分，搜索了下版上以前的帖子，一般都是把ps拆了填了，我也是这样做的，但是觉得这样让质量很是大打折扣，因为毕竟自己的文章是有一定的逻辑的，拆成几个部分就完全就打断了那个写作主线了。anyway，还是这样做了，所以心里对ps更加虚了一层。
推荐人系统
如今流行搞网推，一般都是学校发链接到推荐人邮箱，推荐人点链接完成推荐。但是有几个学校也在搞例外：MSU要求推荐人填个reference表然后附着推荐信发到系里的邮箱去；UIC要求推荐人把推荐信发到系里的邮箱或纸推；Tinbergen搞纸推；TSE可以纸推也可以由推荐人发推荐信到系里邮箱。个人感觉最不人性化的是MSU，那个reference表都不能保存的，必须填完就打印，给推荐人带来了很多不便。
补充一下：U Iowa的推荐系统是认IP的，三个推荐人不能是同一个IP。（没想到真碰上认IP的学校了==）
各学校的小秘（未特殊说明均指经济系的小米）
加拿大学校的小秘普遍态度和效率都没有美国高，所申的加拿大学校中，只有queens的小米每问必回，态度很好；UWO的小米属于发过去n多封邮件会回你一次的那种；UBC的小米基本不理人，唯一的回我的那一次还是答非所问；UT的更不用说了，从去年考完6G起发过n次就没回过邮件，再加上UT申请难度很大，最后很是生气就不申UT了。
美国学校的小秘中，我有联系的是U IOWA,UIC,Emory，SUNY Albany，Georgetown U，ASU，UMD,UNC，Syracuse U的小米，其中UMD,Emory U,SUNY Albany，GEORGETOWN U，Syracuse U的经济系小米从来没有回复过，最后改问了UMD,SUNY Albany，GEORGETOWN U，Syracuse U的研院小米，很快得到了回复（所以和经济系小米联系但是一直得不到回复的可以试试研院小米）；有回复但是态度不是很好的小米有U Iowa，UNC的；UIC和ASU的小米给人的印象超级好，尤其是UIC的，每次咨询都有自动回复，小米回信比ETS还快，这几天基本上是在和UIC小米聊天。
本人和最后没有申请的学校的小米也有过接触，UC Boulder，UW（Seattle），UCSC的小米态度都很不错，态度最好的是UC Boulder的小米，UW（Seattle）的小米回复速度很快。整体来说，对美国的学校小米印象都还是不错的。
欧洲大陆学校的小米没有咨询过，不清楚情况，不过感觉很快就会和TSE的小米联系了，等待申请开放中……

本人用的是招商银行的VISA和卡，感觉非常好用，每笔支付完成的都很顺利，支付完成后都有短信提醒（最近手机里基本都是招行的短信==）。已经拿到信用卡但是还没进行过国际支付的版友注意要申请下VISA验证和设置下网上支付额度，否则支付过程可能会出现错误。国外信用卡的支付不需要密码，就是输入信用卡号，到期日，安全码（签名处后面那3位的数字）就OK了，甚至有些学校支付连安全码都不要，所以大家一定得保存好自己的信用卡信息以免被盗用。
由于最近短时间内干了很多事情，所以特别怕网申的时候出现粗心犯的错误，各位版友提交网申前一定要多check下所填内容，以免出现不必要的悲剧。过几天准备开始寄材料，目前还在纠结是平邮，挂号还是快递中，寄完材料后再来发个经验贴~
由于我这个学期的课业压力较大，所以我打算10月内完成申请的杂七杂八的事，故申请进度可能较快。版友们如果这个学期没有什么别的事的话还是不要太赶时间，把该做的事情都尽量做好，对于12月初截止的项目可能得抓紧提交了（如果是平邮材料的话），建议大家尽量避免寄材料的高峰期（如圣诞节前）。

补充一下：网申过程经常要进行些转pdf，调整分辨率，合并、拆除pdf的事，个人使用的软件PDF Factory真是帮了大忙，另外还有PDFBinder可以用来合并PDF，强烈推荐各版友去下一些这类的软件~
