新人求教几个句子

最近在看杨鹏的那本GRE&GMAT阅读难句，有几个句子求教论坛上各位前辈：
1.Although fiction assuredly springs from political circumstances, its authors react to those circumstances in ways other than idological, and talking about novels and stories primarily as instruments of ideology circumvent much of the fictional enterprise.
根据书上的解释，and之后的分句circumvent之前是句子的主语，意思是“主要以意识形态为工具来讨论小说和故事”，我总理解为讨论小说和故事是意识形态的工具，可是这样又不通，到底这个as是怎么解释呢？
2.Although some experiments show that, as an object becomes familiar, its internal representation becomes more holistic and the recognition process correspondingly more parallel, the weight of evidence seems to support the serial hypothesis, at least for objects that are not notbaly simple and familiar.
这句话书上讲holistic是parallel的同义词，serial的同义词，那完整的，并行的和连续的（一系列的）这几个概念有什么反义近义呢？？

You can understand the above as: when talking about fictions (novels and stories), people consider them instruments of ideology.
Perhaps the key word here is "instrument": http://www.thefreedictionary.com/instruments
My understanding is something that CONVEYS the ideology. So the whole idea of this subject phrase is that people think of fictions as to convey ideology. Here instrument is "One used by another to accomplish a purpose"
btw: you mis-spelled the word "ideology"

2. 唉，我觉得这个句子单独摘出来虾米都不是啊，我刚google搜到原文，你读全文就明白了。个人理解如下，仅供参考：
Two theories on visual recognition:
1. parallel
meaning: when you look at something, you form a image in your brain. Here the word "parallel" means that the actual thing and its mental image (in your brain) is parallel.
characteristics: one-step, holistic ("Emphasizing the importance of the whole and the interdependence of its parts")
2. serial
Recognition in your brain, instead of being a single-step process and having a SINGLE image, is a multi-step process and contains a series of images.

Although some experiments support the 1st theory (as an object becoming familiar ...), more evidence supports the 2nd, especially for unfamiliar and abstruse objects. ——这就是摘出来的这句话在文中的意思。要说那些单词有什么反意近义，查英英字典吧。holistic和parallel必然不是同义词，只是在这个context下面，指的同一个咚咚——the 1st theory.

刚发现你第一句话摘录得不对，应该是单数动词circumvents

"talking about novels and stories primarily as instruments of ideology" is the SINGULAR subject.

按照杨鹏难句的翻译，”而将小说和故事主要地当做意识形态的工具来探讨，会在很大程度上阻碍小说事业“，请教各位有谁知道从哪里看出”阻碍“的意思？
