固然E选项也不失逻辑。

但是是否还需要一个前提--人口的稳定或者增长呢？因为上升的是per capita的消费量，但是结论确是针对总量够不够做出的 ，因此是否需要一个前提：人数是常数或者增长呢？（如果人口下降，很有可能消费总量也下降的阿）当初没仔细看，所以选了B。

其实在说per capita的时候已经把人口变化因素考虑进去了，以前的自给自足，也可以是per capita 的自给自足。per capita's varying is relatede to the total number of grain and meat. no matter the population of Gortland changed or not，per capital已经把另外两个量的变化体现在这个变量上了。 如不不考虑评价量，只考虑人数或重量，其实是无法知道是不是自给自足的。（不知道说清楚没有，好像有点绕）

所以我理解题目的意思是以前和现在都在per capital这个变量上来作比较。然后是考虑meat和grain的关系。所以选E

肉＋谷＝消费

结论：

肉上升，谷物产量减少----->进口谷物

谷物上升，肉不够吃------>进口肉

E取非：肉上升，谷物产量少但吃得也少----->不用进口谷物，削弱原文

另外一个同理

其实部取非也能想明白，肉多了，谷物产量少而吃了还是一样多，自然要进口。但如果肉吃多了，谷物吃少了，谷物产量少也无所谓。

谢谢rock的解释，不过不太不明白你这里列出的两个结论的逻辑关系...这里的是肉上升是消费上升么？他跟逗号后面的谷物产量减少是什么关系？为什么可以得出进口谷物？下面一句也是一样的问题

而且我并不是不能理解E的解释，不过在考试时比较焦急的情况下，有时候很难碰巧按照标准答案的思路去出发，像这里我就是关注了"per capita”,以至于忽视E的可选性，草草一看就过去了。况且我仍然觉得人口仍然是个可影响因素。

原文的假定就是产量＝消费

肉产量上升（同时也是原文假定为了满足消费上升），谷物产量下降（假定谷物消费还是不变）----->进口谷物。根据是：it takes several pounds of grain to produce one pound of meat.

谷物产量上升（同时也是原文假定为了满足消费上升），肉产量就下降（假定消费还是不变）--------->进口肉，同一个根据。

选项E说的是第一个链，其实两个链道理是一样的，这里就是第一个链用上了。

个人见解，B的问题在于，取反，人口数量不稳定，那么可能下降或者上升，如果是上升的话。原命题还是成立。
