要这样看问题，因为你不知道指代什么，所以它就是有歧义的，其实这个句子本身也是有问题的，found and dated 作定语，后面made,就变成，fossils made the sloth balabala...........而句子原本表达的意义是dated这个动作所导致的结果是made the sloth balabala......
个人感觉没问题。 但是thus肯定不能省。 当连接副词连接的是两个adj性质的成分时候，可以省略and First opened in 1892, then rebuilt in 1900, the federal immigration station on Ellis Island processed nearly three quarters of all immigrants entering the United States in the first quarter of the twentieth century. opened... then rebuilt ... SVO
