PREP阅读一个选项的理解，求解释yet

Scientists have yet to formulate a definitive explanation for Hanley’s findings.
yet的用法是什么？相当于not么？
这句话的意思是说科学家们已经找到了关于H的发现的确切的解释还是没有找到？
如果yet就是not，那为什么很常见的用法又有I have not yet......。
求解释yet用法。

yet
adverb
in the future
4. from now and for a particular period of time in the future
e.g. She won't be back for a long time yet.
5. have yet to
if you have yet to do something, you have not done it
e.g. They have yet to make a decision.
